I've had internet problems again - thank you Globe, so yesterdays updates are a bit late.
Ceiling Rockwool completed & plywood layer started.

Looking front from right rear corner.

Looking towards the rear wall.

Right wall from front right corner.

looking towards the rear later in the day.

Looking to the rear another sheet of ply wood added just before I left site.

what did you install to hold those insulations Sir?

Internet back on this morning so here are the photos from Monday, seat riser framing under way.

Looking towards rear + right wall

Looking at doorway from right wall. Through the doorway you can see 2 of the 10 boxes of acoustic panels & corner bass traps.

Hi marlon,
Drilled holes in the ceiling & wall channels & ran 60lb fishing line to hold the Rockwool in place.

Hi marlon,
All wood was treated with wood preservative which deters wood borers & decay fungus.

Would adding many rockwools come out cheaper than using concrete double walls?

you mean holes in the joists Sir?

I saw in the earlier pics you also used wire mesh to hold the rockwool in between cavities on your walls, im just curious if it will vibrate or not?

Lastly, did you use the .6m X 5m X 50mm rockwool sir? If so, what's the spacing of your wall studs?

Hi Nelson, I would have to research that but my feeling is Rockwool would give better results. As my Rockwool came to P85K I would think double concrete walls would be cheaper.

Hi marlon,
All my wall & ceiling joists are steel which are a channel in cross section. For the walls the fishing line was run at the rear (to stop it falling into the cavity) & the channel lip at the front held the Rockwool in place. Where we had problems with it falling out we used cardboard to hold it in place which was removed when the plywood was fitted.
Initially I was going to use wire mesh but it became obvious that it would be almost impossible to prevent the mesh from rattling so removed it & used fishing line.
Yes I used .6m x 5m x 50mm Rockwool but used 2 layers so the depth of my stud wall is 4". The pitch of the studs is 24".

Definitely nelson, and less strain on the load. But obr's is the extreme version hahaha. A good 8" chb erected from floor to roof rafters would already minimize sound transfer. That is for the sound, vibrations is another issue. A properly designed treatment will be cost efficient, problem lang kasi is the labor involved. Too tedious talaga to make it right.

Marlon I was the one who suggested to remove the chicken wire in securing the rw, since if not fasten correctly, it will just add to the problem.

That was what I was thinking...might just add to the prob. Got an advice from Big of avsforum that as long as its snugly fit there's really no need to have a mesh to hold it in the cavities.

I just placed my order for Rockwool insulations (blanket .6m X 5m X 50mm  with 60kg density, and the board for future acoustic treatment needs). It should arrive in days :)

Now im looking for fabrics. Black and Red or Black and Neon Green (Razer inspired theme).

Big's advice is OK providing there is a lip on both sides of the stud at the rear to prevent the blanket falling into the cavity.

Hi guys, I've been quiet for while, Internet problems thanks to Globe, an exotic virus thanks to the wife's sisters family & a problem with the house. The front & left hand walls were to have been 6" insulated panels, this included the rear wall of the HT but the manufacturer decided he could not supply. Although making 4" panels OK the 6" ones were breaking up as they came out of the mould. After careful deliberation we decided to fabricate our own, 4" CHB, plaster skim coat, 1.5" polystyrene sheet & 1" plaster coat on the outside. This enabled us to put in the HT rear wall.

April 8th.

April 24th AM - rear wall perimeter framing.

April 24th PM - left hand wall vertical framing.

April 25th - rear wall.

April 25th - front wall.

I will take more photos later & post tonight.

Hi sir,

mind sharing how did you attach the steel studs to the floor/ceiling? Did you put rubber matting in between the floor/ceiling and steel studs?

Decorators doing well, 2 walls filled 2nd time around, should be complete tomorrow. Air con mounting plate fitted, not to happy as the installers have mounted it 8" off center, cannot do anything about it as pipe work was installed in the wrong position. I will have to modify the rear soffit install, a bit of an inconvenience but not insurmountable.

Looking front from rear.

Looking rear from front.

the aircon mounting was directly screwed to the studs sir? or did you install some reinforcement to hold its weight?

Hi marlon, Only the 1st layer of Gypsum or plywood should be screwed to the studs. My 1st layer is marine plywood, then 2 layers of gypsum board. The plywood gives sufficient support for air con & speaker brackets but make sure you miss the studs when installing these.

For walling reinforcement, its better if you can get hold of high quality marine PLYBOARD. its denser than plywood. Another option is those water resistant mdfs. But for better sound insulation , gypsum board is much much better.
