Is it cheaper and better to order AVR online?
« on: Dec 26, 2013 at 11:12 AM »
I find the locally sold AVR's are somewhat overpriced. Sometimes the price difference is huge. It is like double the price from amazon when converted to peso.

So is it better to buy online?

Which model are you looking for in particular?

But to answer you question, not all the time.

We have good deals here locally from time to time.

Check out local Marantz AVRs, they're very competitive compared with US prices ;)

definitely lower initial cost, but there's the long wait and there's the slim chance of getting a defective unit which you'll either have to ship back for a replacement or have it repaired locally without warranty. very few brands offer international warranty and i think almost the same na rin ang cost if you buy locally.

Amazon may be cheaper but shipping and local tax will bump the total price. Ang bigat niyan and even ordinary USPS will be very expensive. Shipping is also taxed by customs.

I only buy abroad if the item is not available here.

I bought a Marantz PM6004 locally and had a problem with the unit after 1 month. The shop swapped me a new one.  It was that easy.

risks are there definitely. The local distributors will still fix it if something goes wrong but as a non warrantied item. had 2 AVR's shipped via balikbayan box $70 was the cost and it arrived around 6 weeks. Some couriers can also check the unit for DOA but hangang dyan lang.

So far, I bought an outlaw, an onkyo, and a yamaha fron the states. Almost half the price compared to local prices. For me qpay off ang sugal. But my last purchase, which is a denon, the local price was very competitive so I bought it locally.

Yeah I noticed the Yamaha and Onkyo are way lower sa US compared sa Marantz, HK and Denon. Kaya Yammy at Onkyo nabili ko dun. Lalo na pag mag gold box deal sa amazon mahirap talaga iwasan

I just discovered how good denon is. I have always ignored this brand over onkyo and yamaha, but i'm glad I made the switch.

hmmm... If you would factor in the cost of shipping and all the taxes involved, probably not.

But if somebody would bring it here for free, say a relative coming for a holiday, then MAYBE.

Cheers :)

there are other ways to bring it in:

-- via air, and its still way cheaper sa mga local units na uberpriced.
-- via sea  Now, you want murang shipping ? balikbayan box mo 65USd lang per box.  that's not bad right basta you are willing to wait, 5 - 6 weeks ok.
tips: pero dont remove lang from original packaging, dont put liquid containers that can spill  (shampoo), I  got a handful of AVRs for friends that way, tambakan mo lang ng sale na big towels top buttom and sides.  para-paraan lang yan :)

Mine came in via balikbayan box, yun nga lang, extra careful sa paggamit, dahil walang int'l warranty....so far, after almost 3 years, wala pang problema ;)....why from abroad? Gaya ng problema mo....presyo >:D

And to add you dont pay any taxes sa balikbayan box. It will arrive at your doorstep 4-6 weeks after. It's worth the wait IMO.

I have bought the following on Ebay, had it delivered to my parents house in Virginia then they shipped it here via Forex.

Yamaha Aventage A2000 - Original box fits the Balikbayan box.. my parents put towels and clothes   around the aventage box

Panasonic PT-AE7000U - Shipped using the original box because it doesnt fit the balikbayan box

PS3 Slim - Balikbayan Box

Popcorn Hour c200 - Balikbayan box

Panasonic 42 Inch LCD TV - Shipped it using Orig Box

So far wala akong naging issue sa lahat ng binili ko online, my parents do a power up testing before sending to me. But again andun yung 2 months kang kabado. Pwede kasing masira during shipping tapos pagdating dito walang warranty...

Tingin ko ibang case sa Pinas. Wala atang gaanong demand dito so maski na ibaba nila ang price, yun pa din ang market segment nila. Sa US ata ang malaki ang demand kaya may cut-throat competition, so bagsak ang price.
