to underpower or to overpower the speakers
« on: Oct 28, 2014 at 04:30 PM »
good pm mga gurus ano kayang set up ang mas mabilis makasira ng speaker?

200w rms amplifier & 150w rms speaker

o

40w rms amplifier & 400w rms speaker

"Underpowering" often damage speakers more than "overpowering" them because of clipping. Having said that, a 40W rms amp seems reasonable for a speaker that sensitive (95dB).

ang tanong is gaano ka kalakas magpatugtog?
yung tipong pang mobile disco ba na dinig ng buong village or yung dinig lang sa loob ng bahay nyo?

I have a 400watts RMS floorstanding speaker driven by 50 watts gainclone
and meron din ako 50watts rms fullrange speaker that sometimes being driven by 250watts RMS class D amp.
but i only play them in moderate volume level.

check mo na din yung impedance ng speaker mo and ng amp na gamit, dapat match sila. medyo yun ang mas delikado kesa sa wattage ng speaker and/or amp

Hehehe in the process you might land in a hospital too. Di lang speaker sira...pati araw mo sira.

For me its best to have the necessary headroom and by that it means that the amp has to be capable. What damages speakers is the fact that the amp is at its limits however the owner just wants more and cranks it up till the speaker meets its ultimate demise

They mean much, it's just that many don't know what they mean.

i drove a 14watt 4 inch speaker in a TL box using 70 tube watts of power to room filling volume...

I experienced (many times) Tim's setup using a 3W 2A3 SET amp driving a VOTT, it not just fills the whole room but it does so with awesome detail.

Use the same amp to drive a B&W or a Wharfdale, I doubt if you get the same awesomeness...
