Actually, AV_phile1 know about Denon 5900:

If you want serious universal players, go for the Denon 2900 or 5900.  Even the prices are serious  ;D  Objective reviews at

At this time, the 2900 is already quite old, being a 2003 model and supplanted by a better 5900 early this year but which is already overtaken by newer more cost-effective models coming out during the last quarter of 2004 and into 2005 (like the 2910 and 3910).  If not mistaken the 2900's SRP of $999 is already reduced to about half by this time.(I think I saw a $579 list price online)  So it should retail at around 40T.  No doubt the 2900 is head and shoulders over many universal players out there.  But I'm a bit uneasy forking 50T for it.  Maybe 40T is tops.

Seems just fine for me, considering it's less than a year-old model. The current online SRP is around 300 pounds sterling or around $450, if not mistaken. You may want to google search on this.   I think this is the lowest priced Denon universal out there.  I am just not sure if for  10T more, it's commensurately better than the Pioneer 676A I saw at Ambassador, feature for feature.    It does look more solidly built, though.  If its spindle/motor assembly is a lot more silent and damped than the 676A, perhaps.  In the looks department, while most Pioneer players are really slim, I find the Denon 1400 design simpler, more "serious" looking and handsomer.  Just my thoughts.

Personally, I find the proprietary D-link in Denon DVD players a real advantage as it allows you to use only one digital cable for DD, DTS, CD and DVD-A.  (Not yet SACD, though). Thus, you can get digital 5.1 hi-rez where you only get analog 5.1  in others.  But this requires a similar D-link capable Denon receivers and preamps.  Unfortunately, this D-link is only available in mid-high-priced models.  Same with Pioneer's own I-Link.  Though I much prefer Denon over Pioneer Receivers, except perhaps their elite line.  Just my thoughts.

If you're gonna use it for 1080i viewing (Plasma etc) make sure your screen has DVI-i input because Pinoeer pipes its 1080i through DVI. I dont know about the new Denon DVD players though if they pipe their 1080i signals through the composite or S-Vido out

Can't get the retailer to part with the 2900 for less than 500 pounds sterling he says that's the last price :'(.....although the 2910 is the newer model reviews indicate that it is not better than the 2900....and I listened to the two and noted that the 2900 did sound better especially on SACD and CD playback.....and the best price In Makati is from a store in park square (can't remember the name) they were selling it fo Php59k.....grabe 50t for a DVD Player AAAHHHH the madness of it all!  The worse is that I actually think its worth it!  I'm going to audition it a bit more any suggestion on DVD movies to use?

Just came from AV Driver in Shang and just got the 3910.  It has both HDMI and DVI-D. (I read some problems occur when using HDMI to DVI-D adapters). It also features DCDi for component Video. No more Silicon Image. From what I read in AVS Forum and HomeTheater and Hifi website review, this is THE ONE. It outclassed the best ELITE DVD series of Pioneer. Cash price is 68T :o :o

wow....I am planning to buy a new dvd player and this time I want a universal player...

I am leaning towards getting a denon coz of my Denon AVR...however does its higher price tag justifiable? I can get a universal player from pioneer for much less...

mouldingo, how was your 3910?? any reviews??

I am planning to get one after holyweek..... ;D ;D

I watched Fifth Element Ultimate Edition on it, and boy was it clear. No noise and other artifacts, lalo na yung close ups. Meron naman na lower models 2910, it is the same except they say it is sonically lower. If you don't intend to listen to SACD or DVD-A very often, this is good enough. Also please check on your monitor compatibility, I got this because of the DVI outlet and the tweaking options. The Pioneer player has only HDMI out.

Try Audio-Visual Driver sa Shang. I heard a rumour that Beyond Innovation is no longer the dealer of Denon, they are just finishing their stock. Can anyone confirm this??
