guys, just a suggestion. why not include equipment flexibility as one measure in your shootout tests. which of the CD players would perform well playing pirated CDs and CD-Rs, both 5-inch and 3-inch? you could even go further by testing on CD-Rs recorded at 32X to 4X speeds. unlike sonic quality, which could be subjective depending on the sensitivity of one's ears and CD player's suitability to support electronics, this test is objective.

it would be nice to know which players could match the flexibility of made-in-china generics that cost as low as P1,200 brand new and yet could play practically all types of CDs. the last time i was in manila and went around to audition expesive gears there, i was surprised some players sold in audiophile shops can't play accurately my PC-recorded 3-inch CDs. and probably, someone should document your shootout since this would be an interesting subject for a glossy-magazine article, preferably with photos.

your suggestion is great. however, the shootout is really intended for comparison of sonic performance between the contending cd players. albeit subjective, it will serve as our "personal" guide on what is good or bad for our own preference.

another criteria should be on the aspect of:

hdcd vs. redbook
24bit vs. 18 or 20 bit DAC
unit price

Hope somebody will bring their AMX CD buffer to be installed to the least sounding CD player. I'm thingking if it will be considered as plug-in tweak? Any comment?

I bought a Nakamichi CD changer from a fellow member and tested it with my HT setup. All I can say is " Ang Ganda ng sound ". Initial impression ko, it might be better than my Rotel ( tube setup ) though I havent tried a side by side comparison. Im still using generic IC because I just used the VHS line. When I have the time I will compare analog out and the digital out of the CD player and I will also try it with my tube setup. If you are looking for a CD changer, try also this model ( Nakamichi MB10 ).

an update on the marantz cd5400! just auditioned this player and all i can say is...

"it will do the job at a 10k budget range for a cd player, nothing more"

out of topic pero may nakita ka na ba na Marantz PM7200 int-amp? BTW, a German hi-fi mag just made a review that the NAD C352 trashes that bulkier and heftier Class A amp of Marantz....

This is really an exciting event. Different CD players with different nationality with different reviews claiming they the best on its class! OK ito sana matuloy na talaga. BTW, what time ba ito?
