Avatar: The Last Airbender Cast Unveiled For Netflix Live-Action SeriesNearly three years since the project was first announced, Netflix has finally announced the main cast for the highly-anticipated live-action series adaptation of Nickelodeon’s beloved animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender.
After the surprising exit of original creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko last year, many fans have become very doubtful if Netflix would be able to deliver and give justice to the live-action adaptation they’ve been hoping for. Despite this major setback, it looks like the streamer remains committed in keeping its promise of providing a culturally appropriate adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender by officially enlisting a group of diverse young actors.
Leading the series is 11-year-old Filipino-Canadian actor Gordon Cormier (The Stand), who has been tapped to take on the titular role of Aang. Joining him are Kiawentiio (Anne with an E), Ian Ousley (Physical), and Dallas Liu (PEN15, Shang-Chi) who have been cast for the respective roles of Katara, Sokka, and Zuko.
In addition, the streamer has also confirmed the project’s newest creative team which will be led by Sleepy Hollow‘s Albert Kim is set to serve as a showrunner, writer, and executive producer. In his personal letter to fans, Kim went to stress the importance of authenticity and representation as well as the project’s huge responsibility to deliver a story that highlights Asian and Indigenous characters.
