Indeed, Mavs had the chance to extend him for "cheap" — but that was right after his atrocious NBA Playoffs in 2021. There's a reason why they kept on signing/trading for additional ballhandlers kahit ball-dominant pa si Luka/Brunson. Burke, Curry, J-Rich, Ntilikina, Wright, lahat yan because Brunson was unreliable as a backup. Of course by 2021-22, he blossomed into a good starter and backcourt partner to Luka... but by that time, they weren't willing to do an extension anymore na tama naman, kasi you can get more money in FA at that point.

Factor din yung pagiging close ni Jalen at Rick Brunson sa decision niya. It was his father's idea not to entertain an extension and surprise surprise he was hired as an assistant by the Knicks before JB went there (this is a fact - nakasuhan pa sila ng tampering ng NBA). After all, package deal din sila dapat nung college when Temple offered his dad an assistant job just so they could sign Jalen too, but it fell apart when he got arrested.

In the end, mas okay na fit si Kyrie kay JB next to Luka because he isn't as ball dominant. He can play off ball well as a shooter and cutter. He's a better defender - I doubt na pwede mo malagay si JB kay Harden or PG like Kai. He's a proven winner and has more playoff mileage despite being younger by only 4 years. Sure, mas mahal si Kai but it's not like Dallas is going to have cap space if they had Brunson.

At saka after next year, up na ulit contract ni JB. Knicks are going to break the bank and give him a 45-50++ million deal. He won't be a budget contract anymore and that affects yung cap flexibility nila considering he's a 1B player. Wala sila 1A or a no. 2, unless you believe Randle is that guy.

Generally agree.  As a Mavs follower, I knew Brunson was good, but I never expected to see his superstar-level breakout with the Knicks.  Jalen's dad did the right thing - get his son out of Luka's big shadow. I believe Cuban never had a chance.

He made it a point to spin it to the media that he had zero chance of retaining JB because of his Dad and that tampering was involved.  Cuban has a huge clout in the NBA circles hence the tampering allegation

Remember...this is the same dude who after they won the championship, he then didn't prioritize re-signing his key free agents to keep his options open in the trade market because it was the season of the Dwight Howard free agency.   He lost Tyson Chandler who signed with the Knicks.   DAL also lost JJ Barea who was a key contributor to their run to the title.  It's not as if those two wanted major money as free agents....they expressed that DAL just didn't prioritize them.  They weren't on the decline as well...Chandler was only 29 back then and he won DPOY during his stint with the Knicks.  Barea carved out a long career

In a case of seller's remorse...Cuban re-signed both Chandler and Barea after a couple of years....however they were on the decline already.

Two sides of the story.....Bottomline is that they lost JB for nothing.

Now re Kyrie if he is a better fit than Luka....only time will tell.  Lottery team sila last year with Kyrie onboard di ba?  Lets see how deep they go in the playoffs this year, With JB they reached the WCF.

What Mavs did wrong was signing Brunson to a four-year deal without a team option. Usually rookie contracts have a QO on the third year so they become an UFA sa last year and you can match any contract they sign. Donnie didn't do that. Ewan ko bakit. If they did that, Dallas would have easily kept Brunson. Wala nga lang trabaho yung sexual predator na tatay, lol.

And he was correct that there was tampering involved. NBA investigated, determined it true, and fined them a pick!

I usually don't believe what Cuban says, in fact bwisit na bwisit na ako sa kanya (e.g. hiring a coach without an interview, keeping people employed na may mga pinaggagawa na kabalastugan, scamming fans with crypto) and wish he just leave the Mavs. Pero in this case, tama yung mga claims niya.

Yung balak na gawin kasi ni Cuban dun kay JB eh he will tell his free agent that they will make an offer and that they intend to re-sign him. Free agency will then commence and as soon as the other interested teams get impatient because of non committal of JB eh they will sign other players.  Pag wala nang teams na interesado kasi filled up na yung roster spot eh dun papasok si Cuban with his low ball offer.  Eh nakatunog yung tatay ni JB. The rest is history

Tuwang tuwa nga ako nung sa kanya ginawa ni DeAndre Jordan yun eh.  Pinaasa sya ni DeAndre Jordan who was then a free agent and in his prime. He gave his verbal commitment...then pag open ng Free agency eh pumirma ulit sa Clippers.  Naiwan na natutulog sa pancitan si Cuban....he signed Zaza Pachulia instead hahahaha.  From an All Star to a journeyman.  DeAndre publicly apologized for his action but Cuban then proceeded to justify that they wanted to trade for Zaza all along and that ZaZa has a  15 foot jumpshot like that of Dirk hahahaha

Maybe Cuban is unfair to his players.  In the end, he is a shrewd businessman and being a cheap f_ck is his style.

But I can’t help but like the guy.  He is a self-made billionaire who many NBA players consult with for their business ventures (an offshoot of his Shark Tank tv show I guess). His enthusiasm for the sport and his team is matched only by 1 other owner - Balmer.  He strikes me as a smart and sincere person in the interviews I’ve seen.
