Mga masters, kaya bang magpatugtog ng malakas sa BX or RX when watching movies or listening to Disco songs? Can it handle reference level or a bit more? Let's say that it will be powered by the Onkyo 609 (or 709/809) and may sub na SVS ported.

Can you crank the volume up? Or magiging harsh na yung tunog ? (or masisira na yung speaker)?

TY

I can't say about what BX can do but I can say for sure that your amp wouldn't have enough juice to bring the RX to its breaking point. I have cranked the RX to extreme levels but I could not detect the slightest bit of straining or distortion

You can push the amp and the speakers to their limits but I doubt that they give out before your hearing does or the police knocking on your door, or your angry neighbors breaking your door, whichever comes first.

Disco songs generally contain low end frequencies so it is the SVS who's gonna take over the job and it is also the subwoofer that will strain your relationship with your neighbors.

I once cranked my Yamaha RX-A2010 to reference level (zero) for a few seconds while watching a loud scene from the last Transformers movie.  The dust from the flourscent fixture above started falling on me and the starter actually popped out of its socket but the RX speakers didn't break-up  :).  You can ask uerkiwi09 who was with me at the time.

Karzai is right, listening at reference level isn't very neighborly.

Cal thanks for the "stealth" cables. I'm impressed by your craftsmanship. I installed them last night and I could tell straight away there is a difference.  I can't put my finger on it yet as I can only listen at much reduced levels at night but for sure I get more details when watching movies.

I played my "reference" concert BDR (Roy Orbison) and there was an imbalance in volume especially on the highs between the surrounds and the fronts/center (which received the new cables) where before there was perfect synergy.  That proves the introduction of new cables drastically changed something. I'll have to do a new YPAO calibration this coming weekend to balance things out again.

Thanks again Cal.

kung mag diet ka sir sonny im sure hindi mas restricitve as the first time you did it when you got your current speaker hehehe, eto yung sardinas mo pwede pang may pandesal.

you will never go wrong with either of the two choices coupled with the RXLCR and perhaps the BXFX if price of the RXFX is quite stiff.

sent you PM sir Lance,

the floor stander would have an edge versus the book shelf considering the extra woofer, in two channel audio listening wihtout subwoofer the floor stander have an edge because of better bass, i believe in movies, the floor stander can produce better sound quality when crossing the xover to 80 hz versus the bookshelf.

to better gauge the SQ, you might want to visit audioworld and do a side by side of the RX1 versus RX 6 and hear for yourself if the difference may be significant enough for you to go floor stander.

if I may report what I experienced earlier...
first had a listen to the RX1 set up with a Nad and an olive 03... me and the boss were amazed at the soundstage... big voice from little speakers  :o
then we requested the RX2... not as big a soundstage but room immediately got filled...
but this is intended for ht so we asked if we can listen with the MA RXC. Started with the RX1 + center... it was nice but not what we wanted (too bad as this can save me some bucks)
requested the RX2 and this fit the bill, very nice... clarity which is what we wanted was there and the sound quality was astounding. Now I know why ht gurus here prefer this brand and in silver  ;D
I have been listening to several brands and model over the weekend, some were nice some were just speakers in a corner... this one is the one for me. maybe the RX6 is a better option, I never tried nor considered them for budgetary reasons  ;D ;D ;D
oh and before we left, we listened to the BX5... what can I say? its not silver ;)
this is my experience, I hope I did not offend anyone... ( I tend to do that unintentionally)  ;D ;D ;D

If you don't play loud and already know what to expect, it will do. If you haven't heard them, schedule a trip to Audioworld for a demo.

If you're going this direction, try putting the sub in a corner or near a wall to help it.

+1

I was planning to set up a HT system before I finally decided to just go into pure audio that was why I went to Audioworld for the audition. Yes, i heard the vector 5.1 driven by a Yamaha av receiver. Sounded good with much clarity.

Hi sir,
I haven't heard the wharf 9.1 yet but recently i got a br2. For a small floorstander, it has a loud bass already. No need to add another sub.
