Good Pm,

I am a newbie and just recently, an old relative of mine gave me a rcc 935 carousel cd player. The problem with it is the laser lens seemed to hive died out already.

Do your guys know a good shop where I could have the lens replaced? and how much is the usual charge?

Also, any of you guys know whether this rcc 935 is capable of playing cdrs as well. I have quite a number of cdr backups and it would be a dissapointment if I wont be able to pay them on the rotel.

Your inputs would be well appreciated.

eric

I think its bnew, i took a closer look at it.  ;D

Fronting True Value in Park Square.  Is That Sound Dimension?   The RCD971 uses a dual 20-bit Burr-Brown DAC with HDCD filtering & decoding.  The model is around 5-years old.  I wonder if its preowned.

Just visited sound dimension yesterday and their 971 looks brand new complete with box and accessories.  Must be an old stock unsold for the past 5 years!  They also have a 1070 for 25T without box that's totally black, my color.  This is probably either a display model or preowned.  ;D  Unfortunately the proprietor wasn't there to answer my questions and the sales ladies were not of any help.

They also have this Onkyo 502 DVD player that plays SACD for less than 18T.   I'm once again in agony.    ;D

Was able to talk to the guys at Sound DImension.  The RCD971 and 1070 were used as demo units.  No boxes, no manuals.  No surface scatches.  Remotes intact.  They're essentially pre-owned, just rarely used.

I've had the chance to own an RCD-02 before and I say it's good enough for an entry level CDP. Then I heard the RCD-1072 of Kimpoy during one of the shoot-out sessions, and boy was it better. Mas may authority, mas detail and more thump.

Dapat lang noh, RCD-02 is the entry level CDP while the RDC-1072 is the high end CDP product of Rotel. Sa parts na lang you can compare, yung -02 only has the standard block transformer while the -1072 has the torrodial one and much more premium parts.

Ok, dun sa mga RCD-02 owners, comparison lang to ha. Eh yun naman ang tutoo eh. Pero I'm not saying di maganda ang RCD-02, I'M NOT SAYING THAT. The -02 is quite a good CDP also for the price.

During the time the I bought the -02 the cost was 25k then yung -1072 was 36k. I'm not sure of the price now.

Okay ba?

Just to add information (or confusion), you can also look for an and RCD-971, if you are on a budget.

This is around 6 or 5 years old na, pero it sounded much better also than the RCD-02 during th shoot out.

I don't know this exactly, but it seems basta high end yung product, kahit luma na, its performance is better pa rin even if you compare it to newer entry level products of the same brand.

Just my thought po.

Yup RCD02 is ok for its price... got mine from Adelphi/Sing. for 16k PHP before...then manage to add MF X10v3 together with XDAC and XPSU V3 later...sounds better though hindi ko pa na compare side by side with 1072.

If budget is not a problem i would go for 1072... or 1070 other wise get RCD02 and upgrade later but at little bit costlier in the end ngalang di biglaan and the same case for the MF Xv3 series pwedeng pa isa isa.

cheers

Yeah. But it now employs 24bit sampling rate.

Past Rotel CDPs (RCD02 & even the RCD1072) employ only 18bit sampling.

I thought sampling rate was measured in KHz?

Rotel wasn't that much successful with their 1072 model which only got 3 star rating both from whatt hi-fi and hi-fi choice since consumer easily conclude that 24 bit cd player are superior sounding than 18 bit. (24 bit are actually 20 bit the last 4 bits are just marketing bits). The continued use of  burr-brown PCM 1732 DAC  has sometnig to do with the  on-board HDCD decoder. But make no mistake that 971 or 1070 rotel are for keeps. It can beat most 24 bit cd player .
Even user of monica2dac will tell you 0 sampling might be better than upsampling.  It's the over all engineering design and philosophy that counts a lot not the technical marketing jargons or lies . Jetok,  ano pinalit mo sa 1070?

i went analog......rega planar 3.  i thought i can live without a cd player pero hinahanap-hanap ko yung remote , skip, repeat, etc etc ng cd player kaya i got a surplus but reliable cd player - victor xl-z701.....serves its purpose....CONVENIENCE.  :)

I thought sampling rate was measured in KHz?

Sampling rate measures in Khz but should always associated with the speed of your processor, lets say 24bit/192khz....18/96........24/96

SPEED: 8/12/18/24 Bit
SAMPLING: 48/96/192 khz

SPEED: 8/12/18/24 Bit
SAMPLING: 48/96/192 khz

Being more of a computer geek, I would suggest the term:

RESOLUTION : 8/12/18/24 Bit

Pertaining more to the sample content quantity or digital data chunk size. Of course, the bigger the chunks are the faster your processor needs to be in order to attain a certain sampling rate. So it has a relation to speed as well. Though the term speed kasi parang rate din eh. Just a suggestion. ;D

RESOLUTION : 8/12/18/24 Bit

- Actually it's like voltage & current they should always be together.

Resolution is actually depends on sampling rate when you say 96khz and 192 khz these are actually the resolution kaya nga sampling.
8/12/18/24bit - is the speed how your processor reads the data. If i'm not mistaken 1bit is equivalent to 8 characters per second reading.

By Analogy between AUDIO resolution (digital) by sampling rate in khz  and Picture resolution by Pixel, more pixel better resolution.
