Sali na rin ako dito:  Nikko 9095 Receiver

Ibang klase talaga ang tunog nito sa music compared to my a/v receiver.  Sobrang layo! Pwede magkabit ng three sets of speakers (A,B, and C).

Haven't heard of Nikko amp/receivers for a long time, but it was a good brand back in the '80s, in the same category as Onkyo, Sansui and Pioneer solid state receivers. That should be at least 120wpc RMS and should indeed be muscular.

i'm another ss user with the ff. humble set-up: NADc350 & NAD521bee

i don't know if it's just me but when i paired a borrowed tube amp (cayin ta30) with my ae evo 3, the difference in sonic performance was not commensurate with the additional cost.  lalo tuloy ako bumilib sa nad coz kahit luma na siya, it's warm, has good imaging, soundstage and very musical pa rin . . . good overall amp (imho).

tama ang observation mo. hindi komo tube, mas maganda sa solid state. otherwise, wala na sa SS si Dan D'Agostino and Bob Carver who are considered audiophile icons. actually, lumipat sa tubo ang hifi manufacturers during the '60s dahil mas efficient at generally mas maganda ang tunog ng SS at that time. that's the reason why '60s equipment have "solid state" labels on them. also, sa tubo kahit pangit ang workmanship, sounded muddy and humming, ang presyo 3 to 10 times more than SS. mas pogi sila tingnan pero hifi is not on looks, but on sound.

Hi!

Marami yatang pdvd members na solid state dati, tubo na ngayon, Kasama na ako doon.

Bakit kaya? Mas maganda kasi ang tunog. ;)

Amx tube amps can be had for 14K.

Sounds like comparing tubes and SS. However, I also have the same belief previously as avphile, although I have to admit somehow I tried to run after tubes. But today . . . nah!

I could wish the comparison is that simple - hitting the amps.

But in the course of my learning experience - it should be the whole chain - from source down to speakers.

There are speakers optimized for tubes that SS will sound bad on it, and vice versa. Tubes is higly reactive to the speaker cable that you use - thus, good speakers used in SS will sound bad in tubes (and it is possible it is not because of speaker but of speaker cable).

So it could be probably true that what tube lovers say that SS is not as good, and SS lovers says tubes sucked are all true - since it could be conincidental to have at least two of these amp users to have exact setup from source to speakers.

It is very fortunate for happy SS and tube users that they found the perfect synergy of their whole chain working for them properly.

Go serious into matching - and whether you are set to tube or SS is more of convenience and/or fascination to the sound gear - since both can deliver the goods you are looking for - provided the amp is not made the only culprit in the setup. But if you insist in identifying it is only the amp that is the suspect, IMHO, you are still missing the point of what this is all about - system matching.

I for one is into SS, not because it is better than tubes - but it is my convenience - So i do not look after those high SPL full range horn etc etc - do not have to be picky with speaker cable. But I bet i will be able to find a tube user with probably better sound than mine - but will not conclude it is because of the tube amp - most probably it is because he hit better matching of his entire system.

Louie,

kala ko ba SS loyalist ka? tubero ka na rin pala. sinusubukan kong i-modify itong Tono ko (with apologies to wiredstate). ang problema ko kasi sa mga narinig ko dyan sa Maynila na tubo, using CDs i'm too familiar with, hindi uubra sa pinakamurang SS system ko. he-he-he!

actually baka kumuha din ako ng AMX sa susunod na punta ko sa Maynila kasi okay daw yung designer niyan. siyempre patronize our own audio entrepreneurs. mabuti na rin yung maraming naririnig, para magka-alaman kung alin talaga ang nasa top of our list. last weekend sana, kaya lang masyadong tight ang schedule ko. two days lang ako sa QC.

sa ngayon kasi, ang bias ko talaga hybrid, tubo sa preamp, tapos high-wattage SS sa power amp. i might be in Zambo next month or early March. regards,

Louie,

Nani,

With our type of music--classic rock, dapat SS talaga. Kaya lang, hindi ko na kaya ang SPLs ng 70-watt Rotel., dito na lang muna ako sa 15-watter na AMX EL84. Sounds good with Ana Caram, Jheena Lodwick, Patricia Barber.etc.

Yes I can confirm that. Magaling si Andrew.

Used to have that set-up before and was very impressed, but it sure caused  a temporary hearing damage.  See you soon.

bumblebee, suggest that you listen to both, matching them with your speakers and cd player if possible. both are very good amps but the c352 is more powerful (30 watt difference, i think).  the results of your audition will guide you to make an informed decision . . . as they say, trust in the force luke este ears pala.

count me in! using a straight 75wattx2 Gainclone made by Jojod818 ;D

i could have bought an entry level integ amp for the same price, but i figured i would be paying for features i didnt need, and a mark up for the brand name... so i asked Jojo to build me one as per specs

matched with a Tono preamp - its making sweet music at home ;D
