I think i saw this spkr  in Quiapo (fronting mamunluk restaurant) , selling for 4K...
it was paired to Denon pro logic amp.. for me when I heard it masyadong matalas yung mids
maybe beacause medyo mataas and sensitivty ng model na 'to..

:-\ mukhang may chance yata ito sa Marantz SR4500 receiver ko  :)
at saka meron din itong -3 / 0 / +3 settings for both treble and bass

thank you, sir.

thank you roldel5, for the link.

Would this Diatone DS-53D be a worthy buy at P5,000?
Or would I be better off using a newer pair of bookshelf speakers for the same price range, say wharf diamond 9s?

I would be using the speakers for my Marantz PM-54D amp and/or Marantz SR4500 receiver.

thanks.

buy the newer model, diamond 9 series BS would be better.bright sounding mga BS na 3way

Hi All, Just want to inform you this store in Quiapo sell their items with a very high mark up compared to pier. What's even worse is most are already repaired and their not honest in telling you this. Also, the lady owner has a really bad and arrogant  attitude, specially if you bought from them and complained of irregularities with their item.
Sadly, it happened to me before.  :(
FYI.

Sir Karipas.

i think you have a vintage gem in your hand.

It does not belong i think to the surplus category which i gather refers in this forum to the Japanese vintage gear being shipped to the philippines from japan.

Here's a catalog from the audio lansing heritage site.
http://www.lansingheritage.org/html/altec/catalogs/1978-home.htm

It looks like a JBL L100 competitor to me.

Foo,

May binebenta dyan sa Mandaluyong na Altec 14 last month. Medyo mataas lang ang quote pero maganda 'yun -- I was surprised our audiophiles here did not express interest in it while posted at the buy and sell section for 2 weeks. Maganda sa tubo ang vintage Altec dahil efficient. If it's still around next month, I might get it for our house in Las Pinas.

BTW, just got this a few hours ago from one of the junk dealers here in Davao. A 70's Fostex speaker pair that sounds surprisingly good for its size and depth. About 14 inches square 7 inches deep, ported enclosure type. Looks like the Japs made this for tubes: maximum input is only 30 watts.

Awww.

Sir Sandawa..thanks for the advise..
Unfortunately...i am here right now in Cebu on a 1 week training engagement. Then I will proceed to Catarman, Northern Samar for a 1 month continuation of the training for the Provincial Government of Northern Samar... this means i am out of the running for anything that happens in Manila. I can't even listen to my beloved Vfet amp+Ns1000m+Large Advent stacked pair. The hotels in Catarman are horrendous. :( . No audio what soever.. then brownouts on weekends...sob :(

If those Altec 14's look like these...then they are mythical speakers indeed! Look at those horns man!!!

Foo, there's also a Paragon being sold in Hifido parang nakita ko kahapon. I'm also in a traveling spree these past months, just came back from Cagayan de Oro Sunday night. It's quite true you'll miss the sound quality of your home system when you're on field. Since last year, I was able to acquire T-amp driven docks for my iPod and even eeePC -- Altec IM5 and Sonic Impact IF2, which I alternately bring during my travels.

If you're interested in these gadgets -- I can get you one for about a third of their prices online. Just tell me when you're coming here.

Here's a mini Paragon but with Fostex drivers. Price is roughly $1,000, unit is in Kyoto (beautiful place with plenty of castles and old-Japan structures).

been reading this thread for a long time now, been learning a lot from the experts here.  went to pier last week and auditioned some speakers there (lampas ng little chattys).  we auditioned a technics, denon and this otto speaker, all at 120 watts (forgot the model).  i am not an expert in speakers but this little baby was sounding way beautiful than the other two.  very smooth and crisp!

can you guys comment on this speaker?
