Comparisons of Branded DVD Players

Hi all,

Gusto ko lang malaman kung ano ang mas maganda. yun Sony dvd player with karaoke function as presented sa COOL ADVENTURES 2007 versus  yung Promac Caraoke (metallic gold appearance).  Both are of the same price  - more or less.  yung nga lang yung Promac may built in 10,000 songs na daw, while yung Sony 1,000 lang.  Nalilito kasi ako. Gusto ko lang malaman kung may mga Promac users na and if they'd recommend it or kung may SOny users using yung Kiks if they'd recommend the product.  Need your help and feedback.  Thanks.

Bibili na kasi ako e. :)

Hi people... would appreciate your opinion here.

Which would you prefer Pioneer DV-600AV-S or Philips DVP5986K?

1. Will be using it for HDMI upconversion to 1080p.
2. Is there much difference in video and audio playback quality between these two players?
3. Which one is better with media/disc compatibility?
4. Quality of build?
5. Warranty & quality of local service?
6. Any additional inputs/comments?

Thanks in advance for any opinion. Cheers!

i think philips does not have video adjustment so i got the pio 600. Philips on the other hand has a karaoke function so if you prefer that feature pwede rin. The Philips is cheaper though. These are the obvious differences other than these, as to PQ and AQ got no idea but you can compare the specs.  ;)

Sonny when you press the setting of the Pio 600 on the remote, one of the several boxes that appear will be the video adjustment. When you choose it, it will bring you to several settings that you can adjust based on your preference such as brightness, contrast, sharpness, gamma level, hue, etc.  ;D

Same problem, which among the 2 is better?

Pero mukhang I'm leaning towards the Philips because of it's karaoke feature. Ano bang advantages/disadvantages ng 2 units na ito?

Pio 600 can play both DVD-A and SACD. Pio can play both 1080p & 1080i. Pio can operate without the remote.

Got the Philips this Saturday, just install it a while ago... easy to use, very satisfied and way beyond in terms of performance my 2 older players (pioneer & nextbase), well maybe coz naka-1080p na ko!  ;D... 4990 pesos at sm appliance.

Compared to pioneer dv-600av, no optical/toslink and on paper no support for dvd-audio & sacd. But I'm so happy kasi it a leap above the old sd playback and on paper same naman ang hardware codec specs nila (D/A, audio freq, etc.). Plus factor na rin that the philips guy in SM was accomodative and demoed it thoroughly.

testing ko using backup disc (300, private ryan, U2 vertigo concert) smooth naman... guess ok na with orig disc!

bottom line is the Philips guy was accomodative and plus factor that its cheaper... have a great onkyo cd player for music anyway.

Anyway kanya-kanyang preferences yan... hope you guys enjoy your choice. Cheers!

got this one around 3 weeks ago. happy with it. btw, thiss player is not region all by default... but you can unlock it (nullifying your warranty according to the manula/website), but of course who cares!

the philips salesman at the sm appliance store showed it to me and got the same instruction steps at avforum. region all na setting ko.

I also got this player recently replacing my old Pioneer non HDMI player.....(progressive, component cable connection, but can play dvd-a and sacd's)

So far so good....di sya kasing linaw ng mga dvd player with DCDi (Faroudja) chip but this phillips with upscaling feature (1080P) is very cheap to pass up.....Video wise, malaki pagkakaiba nya sa old Pioneer player ko na 480P up to 576P lang....

There's another Phillips Player with a DCDi (Faroudja) chip (forgot the model na)pero nung makita ko eh nabili ko na itong 5986K, and besides, mas mahal sya..... wala pa naman akong balak bumili, napadaan lang ako sa Phillips showroom....hehehehe

It's 6800 at the usual suspects (Western, Automatic, Abenson's)
But sir Jeff of Theatreworks/Stop, Look, N Listen has it much lower!

Sad news that my Pio 400 conked out on me after 6 months. I was watching a dvd and it suddenly froze. I reinserted the disc and a 'no disc' displayed on my player. Tried other dvds but the same problem occured...'no disc' considering that I have played only orig dvds with it.

I brought it to the Pioneer service center here in Alabang and tried the dvds there. They played flawlessly. Nevertheless, I still left it with them for observation. After a week, I followed it up and the problem daw is in the pick-up lens. Waited another week and after following it up, it is the MPEG board that had a problem and they had to bring it to the main service center for replacement. Now it is still there for more than 3 weeks. Somehow I am not satisfied with Pio's aftersales service. I just had the feeling that if the unit is still under warranty, they do not prioritize it. I guess if I just brought it to my suking electronic technician, I wouldn't be waiting that long. Personally, I don't mind paying additional as long as I get good service.

Peeps,

Just because Pio-DV400 is NOT Divx Ultra certified, does that mean it cannot play divx ultra-encoded files?
