Remember what you did to me on Asian Horror topic regarding The Eye?!!!

Try reading it again(at the other thread)... not unless pirated dvd is what you "really" have and you feel a grudge out of me finding it out? Therefore switch your answer to vcd aquisition?

Finally saw Lav Diaz' EBOLUSYON NG ISANG PAMILYANG PILIPINO. The longest film I've ever saw in one sitting with of course several bathroom breaks and eating inside the cinema.

I do hope to see also BATANG WESTSIDE next year..... :)

Scorpio was on my original list. Bumped it off in favor of the new entries. It would probably figure in my next twelve (along with Bagong Bayani, Segurista, Bakit Bughaw ang Langit, Bagong Hari, Bulaklak ng City Jail, Sisa, Babae sa Bubungang Lata, Pagdating sa Dulo, Salawahan, Aliw, Orapronobis, Bayan Ko, Ina Ka ng Anak Mo, the third segment of Tatlo, Dalawa, Isa, Sanda Wong, Kundiman ng Lahi, Biyaya ng Lupa, Genghis Khan, Bayaning Third World, Pagputi ng Uwak, Pagitim ng Tagak, etc.).

That's good man.

I still have to catch up with your lists but I do have a copy now of the ff: BIYAYA NG LUPA, SALAWAHAN, ALIW (again thru the kindness of Jojo) which are both Bernal flicks if only the print of some of our films are still intact and can be viewed. Most are already rotting and destroyed by the passing of years.

Noel if you don't mind can you finalize your lists and post in this thread your top 24 Filipino Films of all time or make it 25. Thanks man.  :)

Arbitrarily, the next 13 (in descending order):

Bakit Bughaw ang Langit?
Sisa (O'Hara)
Bagong Bayani
Sawa sa Lumang Simboryo
Bagong Hari
Biyaya ng Lupa
Pagputi ng Uwak, Pagitim ng Tagak
Pagdating sa Dulo
Aliw
Scorpio Nights
Ang Magpakailanman
Genghis Khan
Kundiman ng Lahi

The list can change at any time.

I'll have to admit, it's a struggle not to make this and the earlier list an Mario O'Hara / Gerardo de Leon filmography, with maybe Insiang and Kisapmata thrown in (yes, that's how precarious Bernal's position is in my mind's pantheon--he's great, definitely, but I'm not feeling good about his works lately--might even have considered Aliw and Salawahan his best, if cooler judgment didn't prevail).

We can hope.

At least you can see most of 'em in Cinema One. Or Cinema Paraiso, or even on the big screen in Pelikula at Lipunan.

and Noel no Oro, Plata, Mata on your lists....... ???

That makes MANILA BY NIGHT your best Bernal flick. HIMALA also has a broader approach. The only flaw in MANILA BY NIGHT I think are the extended love scenes for sheer indulgence.  ;D

No, no Oro, Plata. I'm not a big fan.

I do think Himala is Bernal's most visual film, but I don't like him for his visual style. Which is why the Bernal I chose were the talkier ones.

The Third Part of Shake, Rattle & Roll 2 entitled "Aswang" starring Manilyn Reynes, Anna Roces and Richard Gomez.  Best pinoy horror flick ever in my book.

Do any of you guys have a copy of Pagdating sa Dulo? I'd love to watch that film again. It's been almost 15 years since I last saw it. I want to see something that would effectively wash away the bad taste of those Rory Quintos movies, hehe.

The print was still in pristine condition when I saw it at Pelikula at Lipunan a few years back. SOFIA was responsible for cleaning it, impressive directorial debut of Ishmael Bernal.

Yup, no signs of grain and specks. Rita Gomez delivered an excellent work here same with Eddie Garcia & Vic Vargas. Ms. Gomez seems to be Bernal's favorite actress, she's cast in every Bernal flick.

Garcia was hilarious as the filmmaker in PAGDATING SA DULO.
