With the prices of R3 going down, I dont mind getting the R3s as compared to the R1, unless that is, the R1 has DTS and the R3 doesnt. Specially on DTS-ES titles. Lots of em in Hong Kong.

good idea, specially nowadays most of the electronic appliances in the market are compatible with both NTSC and PAL systems.

Generally R1's are superior in print & disc quality, packaging and freebies.  But I collect both though right now my collection is mostly R1s.

But some R3s are indeed better or at least exclusive.  An example of a R3 exclusive is the Ocean's 11 & 12 boxed set.

R1!  I've had too many bad experiences with R3 DVDs.  It's not just the packaging , most of the time the audio quality is really bad.  Forgot which DVD it was pero I have one that has the DTS clip at the start (yung may piano strings) tapos 2 channels lang yung audio, kainis!!!

i know there's an old R1 vs. R3 thread here before...

but in any case, are you trying to pit locally made R3 dvds (which are almost all dvd5s) vs. imported R3s (dual-layer R3s are normally imports)?

if the latter... i would still choose the R3 imports. dual layer means more features and better video quality (thanks to the higher bitrate.)

alomst always the imported ones are better.....but for the forthcoming da vinci code dvd., buy the region3 version, not the region 1 version...........the former has better specs

ako it depends. back sa pinas, if can't find an R1, order na lang sa marketplace -> which is a good place to find other rare r3 releases.

now ngayon sa dubai, i have to settle with R2 dvds. di pko ready mgorder online eh.

Buy R1 (if you have the money and the means):

Pros:
- most of the blockbuster titles are in DTS compared to the limited titles of R3 in DTS.
- Better audio and video transfer
- Higher resale value
- only a few have access to R1 titles so owning one makes you proud :o
- more features (generally speaking)

Hi Guys! ;D

I agree with Sir Nerveblocker. More often than not, R1 DVD's have better audio and video. There are some films that are only available in R1 which aren't available in R3. :P

After hitting 600+ R1,R3 titles...

I would get only R1 (from Amazon) if R3 version isn't out or available locally.
