Hollywood DVDs with Tagalog Subtitles
« on: Mar 18, 2004 at 03:59 PM »
I just watched X-MEN 2 on DVD and to my pleasant surprise there's a Tagalog subtitle available. What other DVDs have Tagalog subtitles?

that is so amusing.. finally.. Filipinos are realized as a big market in DVD manufacturing. although sometimes, kelangan pa i-improve ng konti.. people here are learning pa lang what would click and what wouldn't and it's good we're advancing.. little by little.

i heard from a news before that Nemo would be dubbed and subtitled in Filipino also but I am not sure if it transpired. In the next years siguro peepz... expect Little Mermaid to sing in  Filipino...  Imagine singing "Part of Your World" in Filipino... "Kabahagi ng Mundo Ko"

It is kinda funny at first because it's new but  through time... masasanay din tayo.. I remember tuloy back in College when Algebra was taught in Filipino... It was called Filipinong Aljebra.. the fraction translation is kinda difficult and longer...  but after a month.. we got used to it.. ganun din sana sa DVD...

My tv is semi-widescreen kaya ganyan ang adjustment.

Anyway its really about time they start doing that. yung English movies nga may English for the Hearing Impaired eh.

Daredevil has tagalog subtitles

DareDevil R3

It's FINALLY out on the market!

Php 850, 2-disc set, clear casing with print on the inner surface, also with 1 page insert with chapter stops. Widescreen anamorphic.

The list of special features on the back of the jacket of the R3 are not complete - they do not include everything that is actually on the discs. Despite not being listed on the jacket, Disc One does contain the enhanced viewing mode and the director's commentary track. The "On-Screen Trivia Track" listed on the package of the R1 is the same as the "Text Commentary" option that can be accessed from the Special Features menu. Yes, it has a DTS track, plus Tagalog subtitles! Too bad there's a typo on the jacket - it says Tagalag, leading me to think it wasn't printed locally.

Comparing the actual R3 disc features with the features listed on the jacket of the R1, it seems all features on both discs are identical, except for subtitles and foreign language tracks.

Released one week ahead of the official R1 release date, this is a very good buy.

yep.. we're part of this guinea pigs (figuratively) to institutionalize the Filipino intellectualization of the college curriculum.. Parang sa DVD also... :)

Mind you... DVDs with Filipino subtitles would be collector's items in the future... or you can sell them to friends in the States..:)

Foreign DVD movies with Tagalog Subtitle
Most of the time, I watch my movies using english subtitle. Even English, bihira ko basahin. Basta nakadisplay lang sya. Pag di ko lang maintindihan yung sinasabi. Do you have other titles na napanood with this tagalog subtitle?

Almost all 20th Century Fox R3 DVDs released in the last 2 years by VIVA have Tagalog subtitles. The only exception I can think of is Star Wars Trilogy.

"Where is Earth?" - Saan ang mundo?

"You should know." - Dapat alam mo.

"It's not our system" - Hindi ito ang ating system.

"Scan." - Siyasatin.

Siyasatin!  ;D

I also saw some on Down With Love playing at a store which made me laugh:

"Open your eyes." - Imulat mo ang iyong mga mata.

Ang haba! And who says "Imulat" instead of "Buksan," especially in a comedy?  ;D

Looks like Tagalog is starting to be recognized as a major language in this area.  Not surprisingly, even those user manuals of some Nokia cellphone models have Tagalog sections.   ;D

they could've just said.."dumilat ka." - that would've been concise.  ;)

Same here, I tried doing that with Day After Tomorrow and I couldnt get a foucs on whats happening. Oh well, my grades were ok in school except for Chemistry & Pilipino.

AVP & Daredevil also have Tagalog subtitles. The translation was good too.

It was a teary-eyed moment for me watching The Passion of The Christ, subtitled in Tagalog. Mararamdaman mo talaga as if Jesus Christ was speaking to us in our own tongue...

Maybe I'll make it a panata for me to watch the film...

Actually, it's not. The Passion of the Christ R3 was released in the Philippines in August of 2004. Daredevil was released back in July of 2003, and it has Tagalog subtitles, as well. That's the first title I noticed to have Tagalog subtitles, and they even misspelled "Tagalog" on the jacket.  ;D

xeqtionr, not sure if Walk the Line is released by Korea or HK. korea has the same release but they dont usually carry tagalog subs so im assuming the one posted above (from cdwow) is an HK Release.

-------

xmen also has tagalog subs.
