How much and where?  I've been walking around countless malls for weeks now and nobody seems to know what I'm talking about.

Check out the Denon 2903 DVD player that upscales using the DCDi chip.  They have it at Sights & Sounds Park Square.  P43T discounted.  The higher Denon models are likewise upscaling.

This is so far the only one I've seen and whose features I've checked. I hear there's a Samsung DVD player that upscales but I've not seen one yet.  Are you using an HDTV display with DVI or HDMI input?

Samsung HD-938 has faroudja DCDi and I saw it being sold at Ambassador appliances, err last year. They have a new model, HD-748, I think, but I am not sure if it has DCDi.

Only the Samsung HD-938 has faroudja DCDi (cost around 19k) with DVI output but the later model HD-941 has both DVI & HDMI output. There's a thread elsewhere that list out all the upcoming Samsung DVDs that have these video digital output. I'mlooking forward to get a unit & hopefully they will be made available in our local market

Just in case you guys are interested, Anson's Galleria is selling a Samsung HD938, DEMO unit, last piece for less than 10k. I got a display unit (buti na lang) for my sister last week.

Its got a few scratches at the back portion,  so if your DVD  player is well placed in a rack, it will be unnoticed.

Call Carlo at 6329482-85 if you want to reserve the unit. I am not sure if its still there by now though.

You guys can try what I did.  I bought the OPPO OPDV971H from:
http://www.hkflix.com/hardware/xq/asp/pid.90/qx/details.htm

It's $199 + $95 shipping + P3500 tax.  Total cost is P20k pesos.  It also comes with a free 6 foot DVI cable.  You can go to AVS forum to read what users have to say about this player.  They're comparing this to the expensive Denon player and many prefer this player instead.  The OPPO company constantly upgrades its firmware.

Hi there! Got the same unit as yours, OPPO OPDV971H ,  though I havent opened and tried it yet because my HDMi-DVI cable isnt in yet. How's your experience with the player so far in terms of setup/installation, performance, A/Vgear?
thanks.

 :)

Saw this in another site. I wonder if Philips has this model available here?

I could see HDMI, SACD and DCDi among the logos.

Denon 1910, 2910 and up have DCDi according to the brochures I got from the Nov. HiFi Show.

I am not sure if the new Denon 1920 has DCDi

it seems not all dcdi equipped player is created equal?

Why is my Oppo 971H so much better than my Denon DVD 1920?

Ok, after much deliberation so I went for a DVD 1920 to go with my brand spanking Panny TX42PX60 but, to be honest, after hours of tinkering I still wasn’t happy and I snapped up a used Oppo to allay this niggling voice in my head that was telling me

“you should have bought an Oppo, you numpty!”

Guess what? I was a numpty. It blows the Denon out of the park. With just some rudimentary tinkering the PQ transcends the Denon. I am so pleased but just want to know if there is any rhyme or reason for this? What say you, you Band of Experts?

I am really interested in what you all have to say. Am I mad or just a victim of Upgrade-Itis.

gets me more excited to receive my oppo 981HD by month's end... hopefully (keeping my fingers x'd).

YES, you're bound to find a Faroudja-equipped DVD units in the capital city but the brands are highly specialized names and the distributors won't stock it unless you have to special-order it. The main name is DENON, I bought my first Denon DVD unit in 2003 with the 2200. Its performance is qualifiably far superior to my previous Pioneer & Panasonic. Using it now by coupling it with a Sony Wega 27-inch of the first generation batch (circa 1999) with its S-Video input still delivers a stunning image wherein the TV's interlaced lines are being actively "contracted" by the Faroudja chip from the player to deliver that classic CRT penultimate picture "perfectness." I tested it with KingKong and the ape's hirsute form is impossible to be dismissed as merely digital creation. Spectra at Makati stocks it long ago. Next, I upgraded to the DENON 2910 and this unit is equipped with the Faroudja SL203 chip. This chip is supposed to be far more superior to the previous ones, and as far as I know, the same thing is the brain behind several models of DVDO line doublers that sells for around $2,000. The image resolution is even more impressive, doubling that of the previous Faroudjas and in our case, used with a Screenplay 4805 projector. This model came from Image Video in Harrison Plaza, it sells for P42,000 in 2005. Our next model is another Denon but it has abandoned the Faroudja chip. We urged you to make a modest investment for a Faroudja-equipped DVD player because your hard-earned money would certifiably be money well-spent from being able to enjoy such sophisticated line-doublers. Faroudja is the final word on video chips, unless of course you have came to know of the ascending name called "Silicon Optix." I spent high for these players because I have remained single  and does not have a family to support. In my case, IMAGE IS EVERYTHING, I can relegate the essentialness of audio or sound as just secondary concerns - but the most essential is the image - the more perfect the better. Look for the Denon 2910 or the current 1930ci, which sells for P28,000 from Listening In Style or even lower from an AV shop called Pro-Laser in Quezon City (an Onkyo & Denon specialist). Thank you for listening....
