I love the 80's so the movie that I can relate with is of course my favorite movie of all time...ST. ELMO'S FIRE!  :)

From its soundtrack of David Foster to Jon Parr's "man in motion", the story of seven friends having difficulty about life after college.

THis movie did not get a single positive review in the entire United States of America during the year of 1985 but the whole cast became a household name.

Sure, Joel Schumacher mess-up Batman & Robin, but his early movies are my favorites because of pop culture and filled with beautiful youth. Only indication that this old man is full of talent and now an A list director.

There is no apt description for my generation- the 80's.It is relative. It could be a very political generation- just think of  the rallies after the Aquino assasination that culminated  the EDSA1 and the chain reaction it got from all over the world.  Or it could be a pacifist generation because in our desire to live peacefully,we torn down the walls of oppression, division. Unlike the 70's  advocates, we abhorred the extremes and tended to live within our comfort zones.  But we also loved sex so much that after a long time, we produced pornographic movies (  started by Joy Sumilang's Sabik followed by    a host of porno flicks). And the Aids. It was in my generation  when religions, psuedo-religions, cults,   and fellowship groups flourished, hence I can say that my generation is a spiritual one. My conclusion is that  two dvds  define my generation- Porky's and Caligula.

Though I belong to the 80's generation, I found out that 80's movies were predominantly mediocre compared to other generations...70's, 60's, 50's, etc.

IMO, the only movie I'd seen that defined my generation is "Bagets"
 ;D

In the 80s the only good Pinoy movie that I really liked was Bagets (1 and 2). Now that defined being young in the 1980s. Technically, VCD copies pa lang ang nakikita ko nito -- no DVDs. But I'm sure there is/will be one.

As the 90s rolled by, it was Singles. Preferred it much more to Reality Bites, which was oozing with so much angst-ridden BS that I actually consider its cast of 90s archetypes willing participants of the Gen X labels they fight against -- unemployed, pseudo-intelellectual, yuppie, gay.

i consider "singles" and "reality bites" like my generation (90's)

but i'd say these dvd's/movies also had influence on defining the generation ;)

speed - every other male schoolmate had the semi kal look.
space jam ! the movie was so popular since MJ was at the peak of his career that time!
batman and robin - geez everyone, even me had the clooney hairstyle! ;D
titanic - all the girls like jack! :-\
jerry maguire - "you had me at hello" - 90's contribution to cheesy lines!
forest gump - oscar best movie with another tag - "run forest run"
brave heart - oscar best movie. one of my all time favorites!
anaconda - the launch of j lo!
goodwill hunting - add ko lang since i like the movie :P
