What I know is that the LCD/Plasma TV will display on the screen the resolution of the input signal it is receiving. So you can know the resolution your upscaling DVD player puts out.

as av_phile said, you can check it thru your lcd.  the lcd will tell you if its receiving hi-def signal or not.  my nextbase gives 1080p signal to my lcd.

if you have an lcd, set your player to give 1080i or 1080p signal thru hdmi, then depending on your lcd, you can press a button to show in the display what signal your lcd is taking.  i have a lg 32lg53fr and just pressing the OK button in the remote, it will tell me what signal my player is giving.

di ko subok yung brands na nabanggit mo pero i can attest Nextbase NB-895 that it gives out 1080p signal.  reminder, kaunti lang naman ang improvement ng dvd upscale.  but if you want a display that will make you WOW, bili ka na lang Blu-ray, mura na ang lg bd370, yun nga lang nagkakaubusan na sa abenson  ;D

blu ray players will definitely play your dvd's, upscaled pa.  pero tulad ng nabanggit ko before, kaunti lang improvement ng dvd upscale sa standard dvd, even if played on a blu-ray player.

You can always test those generic upscaling DVD players you mentioned right at the store.  Sa SM appliance, daming generic ready for testing.  Have it connected to a 1080p LCD TV and see the display information if it is receiving 1080p from a generic player you are testing.

May tanong lang peeps. Alin ba ang lalabas na mas magandang PQ (upscaling) sa 32 lcd bravia (and is it discernible?) when compared - yung downloaded divx movie na 700 mb size played sa lets say philips hdmi (this player also upscales movies on flash drives right?) or playing the same movie using an nmt, say WDTV? Thanks!

im also using a generic upscaler and i notice a great improvement vs sd.

haven't tried this, but with that file size to start with, i think no upscaler can do a good job. maraming potential errors sa upscaling process that could even worsen the picture. that's why some dvds look better on 720 than on 1080.

the manufacturer can be sued for making false claims and can be removed as a supplier if the appliance store is reputable
