Boss question: ever done a class a mosfet amp that is about 50-60 wpc? Looking for a power amp and interest was piqued by several diy articles on pass and krell clones.
I was once commissioned to build a Pass Labs F1, but that was only about 10W and iirc, it was used as a headphone amp though it was happy driving my old unknown model Starvox fullrange speaker.
I'm the one who built the official diyAudio build guide for the Pass Labs F5 which was 25W @ 8 ohms. As per Nelson (Pass, not De Leon
) it can be increased to 50W Class A with several modifications in the power supply unit.
Thermal management with these type of amps is mandatory, they like running hot, all the time, but still, temp has to be kept at bay.
These are all FET based power amps. jfets on the input and mosfets on the output. There are also more powerful designs like the BA series (Burning Amp) or the F5T (T for Turbo) that spits out 100W Class A at 8 ohms.
Cheers
