been looking at Yaqin's CD2 and is it my eyes or it is really a cathode follower with one triode per tube? ;D

well I was tasked to study one for a possible "mod" so I end up plotting the circuit with the help of pics from the net and to my dismay, another cathode follower. so this is just very similar to the Sakura av200t tube section with a highish plate supply and a different case. ;D

talk about imagination, I was hoping for something a little bit more complex  :D

tubes are never complex, no matter how they appear to be..... ;D

if that is the one with the 6J1 pentode wired as a triode, then you can make a straight pentode cathode follower, just 2 resistors and 2 caps and presto.....another flavor.... ;)

pentode cathode followers have lower output resistance......can drive cables better....

the sakura av200 have a plate volts of only 12volts dc......a 6GM8 tube would have been better in that spot... ;D

from the pics, there is one design principle that the chinese have caught on to...that is the use of highish filter caps.......the usual design rule of thumb is 1000ufd per ampere, in that preamp, the chinese have simply outdid themselves........bravo!!!!!....... :D

oh yeah, the 6gm8 is noted for it's ruggedness as an automotive tube. I did a 24V 6gm8 Aikido before and it was a novelty now at Bicol.

indeed it has a hefty rectifier and filter section, those are 100uf 400V with a W02M diode, more than enough. better overkill than not. ;D

I guess they thought that tubes are like solid state when tubes are more like voltage devices as solid state are more like current devices.

think of triodes as thevenin devices and pentodes as norton's.....

that would had probably been a good simile but should be better addressed to the manufacturers...

think of triodes as thevenin devices and pentodes as norton's.....

looking at the plate characteristic curves, triodes are simmilar to jfets.......whereas pentodes have bent curves much like bjt's, pentodes have very high plate resistance, so that is is often be ignored.....

going back to that yaquin preamp, i really wonder why the Chinese did not make it a pentode cathode follower instead, it would have cost them just 2 resistors and 2 capacitors......

I was informed that it is being marketed abroad as a tube sound processor, maybe the idea of the manufacturers is not just to buffer, however, if it is not just a buffer I don't see the reality in actuality.   :(

I may have to call off the "mod", I'm not quite sure where it will lead if it pushes thru...

one of which could be the best solution, but it almost always relies with the marketing....
