Thanks Kimpoy, more power to you too  :). I actually met Kimpao already in Akyat's place so I thought you were him.

**********************

Anyway, speaking of akyat. I went to Roger (akyatbahay, este akyatbundok) last night to borrow his tube pre amp. I learned so many things from Roger. Mabuhay ka pare!

I was able to connect the tube pre amp to my HK AVR's cd input successfully last night. I deactivated the DSP & surround mode and there, I got tube sound with SS amp. It was great for jazz & vocals, but not that great for pop songs.

I tested it with my bedroom setup (with Kenwood amp) awhile ago as well.

Naku something to look forward to... again. Iba yung sound ng SS sa tubo and I think I want to have both. So I guess tama din yung sinabi ni New Age & Ricky, just set it up (tube)  in my bedroom. So I could listen to both, whichever suits my mood for the time.

Salamat mga kaibigan!

Yes I am Rony! Pero simple pre amp for my bedroom setup lang.

Indeed, marami nga gumagabay at maraming maraming salamat sa kanilang lahat. I am so happy to have met so many good friends here in pinoydvd who are always there to help regarding audio. Free consultation!

sir,
very nice set-up.  sir, pa amplify naman po.  how do you connect an avr and an amp - any schematics? i mean paano nyo na combine yung hk nyo at rotel? ty po

Quote
Removed the speaker plates
HK630-->Ecosse 2.3-->M34 HF
Interconnect from HK630 PRE OUT L&R to Kenwood amp
Kenwood THX amp (2x130w)-->IXOS 6006 (11ga)--> M34 LF

Rotel has cleaner sound and a wider sound stage, but since I am using it only for the LF, I plan to move it to my bedroom to be paired with the tube pre amp (for more clarity, bi amp uli, maybe?), and use the Kenwood amp for the HK. Para more optimized.

A few nights ago I tested a non bi amp setup, iba talaga. Mas maganda pa rin bi amp sound, very very clear. My entry level floorstanders sounded like expensive speakers  :). So my plan is to listen to instrumentals sa SS setup in the main HT room, and vocals and jazz sa bedroom (pampatulog).

Kinakantyawan nga ako sa Yamaha thread na bumili ng new model Yamahas (palit HK :( ), but truth is, maganda talaga tumunog ang HK sa audio. I listened to my setup while thinking of the Yamaha temptation, and in the end, I knew I am happy with the HK and will stick with it for some time.  ;)

Good thinking bro, ganda talaga hk and denon avr good for audio-video, yung yamaha payat yung tunog talaga sa audio lalo na kung 2 channel listening lang,so dapat may power amp pa :)

galing sir matz.....how i wish na magka tube amp din ako sa bedroom, nakakarelax mga audiophile vocals, smooth jazz...ambient music too.  buhay na buhay ang boses......whew!!! ibang sars na naman to....kinoconsole ko na lang sarili ko na nasanay na ko makinig ng music sa car ko (which has a tube set-up btw) and madalang lang sa bahay...mostly movies.  but venturing into tubes (and bi-amping) would be something to look forward to someday.....inspiration ko talaga set-up mo sir matz....post ka pics when its done ah.. ;D ;D

Thats the right word, "payat" or "manipis" as some people described it. In my experience, dapat may subs pa ang yammy for 2 channel listening, sa HK, no need, bass is excellent. Sad to say, even my spare kenwood amp sounds better than the Yamaha in audio.

galing sir matz.....how i wish na magka tube amp din ako sa bedroom, nakakarelax mga audiophile vocals, smooth jazz...ambient music too. buhay na buhay ang boses......whew!!! ibang sars na naman to....kinoconsole ko na lang sarili ko na nasanay na ko makinig ng music sa car ko (which has a tube set-up btw) and madalang lang sa bahay...mostly movies. but venturing into tubes (and bi-amping) would be something to look forward to someday.....inspiration ko talaga set-up mo sir matz....post ka pics when its done ah.. ;D ;D

I am using a borrowed tube pre amp from Roger now and its doing well for the bedroom setup so far. Pero hybrid lang setup ko, iba pa rin yung all tube (pre amp and amp) na tunog. Pero this would do for (my budget) now.

I had the pre amp custom made with a passive linestage, so I could also use it as a passive volume control for watching DVDs with the power amp (w/c has no volume controls) in my bedroom. A good side effect of this configuration is that I could choose between tube (active/ pre amp on) or CD direct (passive/pre amp off). So I have the option to listen to music in tube mode (jazz, vocals) or solid state mode (others).  :). I could also watch concert DVDs in tube!

Cool idea huh?  ;)

I could also bring this pre amp to the main HT room.

When the setup is done I will post the pics  :)

MAtZTER's den calibrated by BOTE

Thanks ricky for bringing bote here to calibrate the system. Hanef si bote with his hi tech instruments! May tripod pa and gadgets! Sir Eddie, MARAMING SALAMAT PO! Gumanda talaga tunog ng system ko!

I thought calibration was not that important but after bote calibrated the system, the differences were audible. I could here more detail, I experience better panning and most of all, the surrounds sound right! As quoted  " di mo akalain na may maibibigay pa pala yung system mo".

Now I know why they charge a lot for calibration, it really matters. And bote did it for free!

I watched Cast Away after you guys left and I never thought this simple movie would be that impressive with its sounds. The crashing waves in the beach sound realistic and detailed, and the plane crash just blew me away. And you are right, tama lang yung bass, medyo malakas pa nga actually.  ;D

Halfway in the movie, some friends visited so I switched to watching Nina Live with them. Its very nice in DTS, detailed yung instruments.

Pero sa Bi amp pa lang, I was very happy already, very detailed sa audio, specially instrumentals. Listening to Latin music, guitars, drums and those sharp sounding instruments is just bliss 8) .

More on sleepless nights ako listening, but I cant play it loud cuz our child sleeps with us in our room  :-\.

Any time you, joel, henry or roger wanna come over , just say so. You are always welcome here.

Salamat Bro  :). Mas masarap buhay pag may passion tayo on something.

Di nga nya pinapabalik kasi sobra syang busy kumita at di nga nya nagagamit at all.

Hehe.

Congrats on your wonderful HT :)  I really enjoy watching you mature with regards your equipment and knowhow.  I wish my future system will sound as good as yours ;D  Don't u miss your CHT-10 anymore?

Thanks Dtug! I got most of my knowhow from this site, so I am truly thankful to this site and my pdvd friends who have taught me a lot. My barkadas get surprised when they hear me talk about AV stuff. Wala kasi ako alam dati.

I dont miss the CHT-10 anymore, I used to, but the CHT12r sounded good when it was broken in. And as of now, I dont use the subs for music anymore. The floorstanders do a great job for the bass, tight and just right to my listening preference.

I used to need the CHT-10 when I was using a Yamaha receiver cuz the power wasnt enough and "manipis" yung sound. When I upgraded to HK, I realized I didnt need the subs anymore. Its 90w stereo power is more or less 180w compared to Yamaha and it was able to power the speakers outstandingly. When I bi-amped the system (90w-HF, 100w-LF), the mids & highs astoundingly improved by a lot.

I suggest you get the CHT-10r if you are using bookshelves and into music. But if you have good floorstanders and ample power, go for the CHT-12r for a better room jolting HT experience and let the speakers (and amp) handle the bass for audio. The difference between 10r and 12r is significant. just my 2 cents  :)
