KV-28DX750
« on: Feb 04, 2009 at 10:02 PM »
Hi, ask ko lang based on the tv's manual it supports 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i input signals, the question is what would be the output resolution for this CRT HDTV? Some says CRT's would display converted 1080i resolution regardless of the input resolution or kaya din nya magdisplay ng 720p? TIA

... the question is what would be the output resolution for this CRT HDTV?

Manufacturers usually don't publish CRT HDTV display resolution, so it's hard to give a definite answer to that question.

Most HDTVs have a display resolution of 1080i, so we can safely assume that the Sony CRT HDTVs do the same.

Some says CRT's would display converted 1080i resolution regardless of the input resolution or kaya din nya magdisplay ng 720p?

That's true.  The CRT HDTVs I've read about have a display resolution of 1080i.  When set to progressive, that's only a 540p resolution.

720p would be displayed as 540p, but I would imagine that scaling is probably very good.  The simple conversion factor (720 x 3/4 = 540) makes it easy to design a good scaler.

When used as a PC monitor and with capable graphics controller like ATI' CCC, resolution is whatever you like up to 1920x1080.   I can set my DX850 (similarly rated 720p but with super fine pitch) up to that and then underscan as I please in case hindi makita yung buong page.  But my preference is to set at 720p and then underscan a little bit para exacto ang fit.

When used as a TV, the DX750 is rated D4 or 720p.  If it does 720p, it can also do 1080i (D3).  Whether the CRT tube is actually displaying that resolution natively or not is a question mark but when fed with an HDTV signal (720p in Japan), it gets  properly displayed - not as sharp as LCD or Plasma but certainly not SD - and much richer colors.

Xbox360 connected to my super fine pitch DX850 looks absolutely awesome.

Xbox360 connected to a 29 inch DRC-MF Sony (DB60 - not super fine pitch but D4 rated as well) looks just as great but since the aspect ratio is 4:3, results in letterboxing.  Lumiliit ang viewable image but looks high def no doubt.

Accordingly, Xbox360 on a DX750 should be just as fine as the 29 inch DRC-MF, widescreen pa - assuming the surplus TV you're getting is in good working condition.  720p lang maximum setting ng DX750 through Xbox360.  But as I previously posted, this series can go as high as 1920x1080 when connected as a PC monitor and the graphics card is capable -may overscan nga lang.
