I chose this for my client and he is very happy with it, Very good picture quality and service plus the freebies. The Hitachi is a little better in  video but overall the Samsung was the better buy. You get a free cellphone and an HTIB for 5T. Even with the component connection, the video is already very good. We havent tested the HDMI bec the Philips DVD player we got is malfunctioning so we need to return it tom.

Intay ko na lang PS3 para HD game console and BD player in one!

Besides, the PS3 and other Blu-Ray and HD DVD Players will upscale ordinary DVDs into HD resolution.
So, ayan enjoy to the max na talaga ang HD World.

Paalala ko lang - 1080p/i can still be enjoyed even without HDMI. Unless movie industries start implementing the ICT
for movies earlier than 2011.

I got my samsung 32R71b lcd about a month now. A week after I got it, I noticed some flickering of the screen which should not happen as what LCD manufacturers claim. So I got in touch with the dealer and they immediately called Samsung repair center and had someone visited to check which they claim is just a matter of adjusting the settings.

For a while it worked, however, I am seeing the same flickering again and this time a lot more than usual. I have filed another complaint to their service center and have voiced my sentiments for a replacement instead.  :-\ :-\ :-\

So far I am satisfied with their service. However, I am not sure what I have is a "lemon" or something. Has this happened to you?  ??? ??? ???

BTW, I got mine from Ambassador for P83K, cash. At that time Abenson was selling it at P99K (plus a free samsung cellphone) for 24 months 0%.

I noticed this too. I use my LCD exclusively for DVD viewing and the screen flicker usually happens when there's a transition between bright and dark scenes. It's a feature called DYNAMIC DIMMING built in to the R7 line of LCD's.

There are two ways to disable this feature.

1. Select movie mode. Under movie mode, dynamic dimming and DNie are both disabled. All other picture modes have dynamic dimming and DNie on.

2. Permanently disabling dynamic dimming via the service menu.

On your remote press "Power Off - Info - Menu - Mute - Power On"
(If You can't get it to work try doing it slower)
Your TV should TURN on with lots of purple Menu options if you did it right.
Now, Select Option 2 in the menu and press enter on your remote.
Press down untill you reach "Dynamic Dimming" and press right until it goes to OFF. Then just press the EXIT button on your remote to finalise the setting and finally turn your TV off then back on.

I disabled mine via the service menu since I want the option to use Custom mode without the screen flicker.

So, in other words, this is actually by design and is normal?

I use mine to view both DVD and TV. Can you post your Custom Mode settings?  ;D Any recommended settings for TV to avoid those flickering?

Yes it's normal. Nothing's wrong with your LCD. If you haven't disabled Dynamic Dimming via the service menu, any type of Custom Mode settings will still have the screen flicker. For your reference, my settings are:

Contrast 80
Brightness 60
Color 45
Sharpness 35
Cool 1

Here's my simple HT (ongoing work). Still saving up for the renovations.  ;D ;D ;D

My organized chaos of a collection..  ;D ;D ;D  They're still waiting for their final "resting place".

My HT, PC and Gaming:

Display:      Samsung 32R71B LCD TV
Player:       Pioneer DVD Player (DVD-575K)
AVR:           Yamaha RX-V457 (6.1)
Speakers:  =Wharfedale=
  Front Speakers = Diamond 9.1
  Front Center = Diamond CS
  Subwoofer = Diamond SW150
Surround = WH2 (SR, SL and Center)

Consoles: PS1, PS2, PC Engine (SuperCore), Nintendo SuperFamicom (not in pic), Nintendo NES (not in pic)

PC:
Monitor 19" AOC
Pentium 4 - 2.8 Ghz
Asus P4P800SX Motherboard
1GB RAM
Nvidia FX 5200 (128mb) with S-video out
750GB Combined hard drive space
Lite-On DVD ROM
Lite-On DVD-Writer (16X)

I know the arrangements of the speakers are still not proper, like the subwoofer is better on the right side and the front speakers should be aligned with the center, etc. It's an ongoing project and I'm still saving up for the renovations.  ;) ;D

Sir MatZTER,

Model no is HT-TP33T (or HT-P33).  You need to add 5K to avail it if you are buying the LCD TV. Actually, I got it free when I bought my LCD TV.  I depends on how you haggle with the salesperson. The price is P29,000 if you will buy the HTIB separately.

Hey Sax,

Is this HT-TP33T / HT-P33 the same with USB drive port ?

How's the performance ?

Sir will this void the warranty? Kasi im also experiencing this Dynamic Dimming whenever there's a transition between light and dark scenes while watching dvd.

I think so. But you always have the option of using Movie Mode instead rather than entering the service menu.

wow ... dami na pala ang satisfied samsung lcd tv users !

samsung has an even better promo for their new LCD TVs ... you can get a 20 inch LCD TV free if you purchase a 32 inch/40 inch/46 inch TV at 12 months installment .

tanong lang po :
anong difference ng R71 , M61 and M51 series ng samsung lcd tv ?

karagdagang tanong :
will it be worthwhile to wait for a 1080p LCD TV ?

thanks

M51 has lower contrast ratio at 3000:1
R71 has the same contrast ratio with M61 at 5000:1
however M61 has 92% color gamut

sir jeck, sorry, I just happen to have a specs sheet with me.. and simply posted the difference as requested by bayonic.

I'm not good at explaining but I'll try... (in english  ;D)
contrast ratio obviously refers to the different levels of contrast....
higher contrast ratio gives you more levels of contrast and
therefore, you'll achieve darker level of blackness with a higher contrast ratio.
5000:1 is therefore better than 3000:1.

for color gamut, I just did a search in google:
you can think of color gamut simply as range of colors  ::)
so 92% from what I read is already a decent number.

the M51, R71 and M61 are assigned models of samsung lcd.  ;D

I don't think changing "only" the dynamic dimming to off voids the warranty. However, modifying some other settings which causes certain damage will definitely void warranty same as with abusing the buttons  ;D ;D

would anyone remember how much the 32 inch M61 model was going the last time they looked ... it's currently around 150K plus a free 20 inch LCD TV according to the latest Samsung promo . . . if the price for this model was already less than 100K before then the 20 inch LCD TV is not really "free"

thanks again

Would you rather have a significantly lowered price or a higher price with free tv? I got mine from Ambassador in Shangrila for way much less than what most appliance centers offer. Of course, this is cash. However, if you're after the 12 months interest free promo, then I suggest go for it.

jackryan,

sorry for the very late reply, I was out of town.  regarding your question, yes, it has the USB drive port. in terms of performance, hmmm, not that good.  When the unit gets hot, it tends to produce horizontal lines.  It only disappear when you pause the movie and then play it again.

Try displaying a totally black image, red image, blue image, green image, white image.
A dead pixel should be easy to spot.  I heard samsung will replace the TV if a certain number of dead
pixels (maybe 7?)  appear within the warranty period.

Chief, so is there such a program where you can display a steady black, red, blue green or white image?

A PC would work...you can use Paint or change the background of Windows....

Another is use a THX DVD...like Star Wars or Indianna Jones.... they both have THX Video Optimer programs...
that might help....

I just got my R71 yesterday, with free wall mounting bracket, and a 21" Slim Fit Tube TV with rack for 90K, 12 months - at 0 % interest.

I convinced Abenson's to give it at that price since i'm getting the same offer from Anson's. ;D ;D ;D

my friend bought a 40R71 for 179k with a free 20" lcd. he asked the shop owner if he can get a 32R71 instead of the free 20" and paid extra 45k.

is this a good deal or the price of both lcd tvs are just the same as buying individually?
