Affordable Pro-logic receiver - Sakura etc...
« on: Jan 15, 2006 at 09:42 AM »

Can someone confirm if Sakura (quite popular here besides yamaha) sells receivers with pro-logic
decoder built in? Is the pro-logic feature REAL and not just a sticker on the face?

Ive been to raon looking around for one and saw alot of cheap receivers that are basically only 5.1 amplifiers.
I already have a 5.1 system using a 5.1 ready DVD player and several discreet amplifiers. Plan to use the pro-logic receiver with numerous stereo sources such as PC, TV and PS2 and also to replace the discreet amplifiers with the receiver's amp.

Thanks in advance!

Sir most generic receivers like konzert, sakura, etc. are just a 5.1 not equally integrated power amp. and the said prologic face plate logo are just there sadly  :-\ to sell.

If your really want a proglogic receiver at a cheap price, go for the B & S section, there are some second hand receivers that really decodes prologic like my DSP-2000 im selling it for 6T neg. with remote.

prologic should convert 2 analog audio signal into L/C/R dedicted channel and making the 2 surrounds channel as a mono source. and for that i tried if these generic "prologic" receivers if they do decode this signal.

the outcome... sadly they don't decode, vocal's tend to mixed-up with the L/C/R and the surrounds also tends to produce vocal sources that makes this receivers as 5ch integrated power amp.

Now the good side, new modeled generic receivers such as KonZert 600R has a 5.1 input so that making your DVD players as a dolby digital decoder. (but as a last note there are no fiber optic connections on any generic receivers)  ;)
PCCian... kumbento boys!

Thanks man!

I myself was also skeptical when i saw the "pro-logic" logo in the generic receiver. Asking the sales attendant was no help as i expect them to just say yes, which they did.

I may just check out the B&S section as well as online ads for branded receivers.

Try to audition Magnum AMP5121, i am using this as my videoke amp at home. It is 5.1 ready 5 channel amp. It has an option for two channel or five channel output for stereo decoding. Meaning, using stereo input of CD, VCD or even playstation or xbox, it can produce five channel output if you use the option.

There were so many Jap surplus prologic receviers last I was there early this year.  They used to be flagship and mid level receivers from Technics, Yamaha, Onkyo and Kenw, etc  of the late 80s that now go cheaper than or in the same range as many Sakuras.  Just another option if anyone wants to go prologic.  ;D

Pede po ba magpatulong???

I have a KonZert 600R AV Receiver 5.1 Channel, gusto ko sana sya ikabit sa PC ko Using my DVD Rom as my Player and a Built-In 5.1 Sound Card. Pede po ba sya maging True 5.1 Sorround Sound talaga since yung software na gamit ko (WINDVD 7) ay may Dolby Digital ProLogic II na features? gagana po kaya sya as 5.1 Setup (HTPC)

Pano po CONNECTION?
Do i have to use any converters, adaptors para sa PC ko in able to connect sa KonZert 600R?

thanks in advance!

If your konzert receiver has 5.1 RCA input, you can connect that to the 5.1 output of your soundcard. I pressume the soundcard output uses baby jacks, so you need three cables with stereo baby plugs (or mini plugs) on one end and RCA plugs on the other.  Your PC then acts as a 5.1 decoder/processor. I also have the same connection using digital Toslink however.

Actually, there are only two models of Sakura that I know of that has a legit Prologic processor, sadly, the 5.1 input is only 4.1 since the surround channels are driven by just one amp. But the Prologic processor is just great. The model is AV-1600 and AV-1800. The newer ones, like the AV-387a have 5 channels amps, but have no Prologic processing.

Well, 5 independent amps with 5.1 input is really all you need when you have a PC soundcard that does the decoding.

Look for "Member Exchange" Section in the home page.  Under that are two daughterboards for "DVD Marketplace" and "Assorted Buy and Sell."

thanks, jakecastle and archie.  i'm tempted to take the HT plunge with a sakura avr + dai-ichi speakers.  but i cannot play things as loud in my room so di rin siguro masulit.  what do you think, guys?  should i not get a sakura and just buy cheaper 5.1 speakers for my dvd player?  if thats the case, medyo OT na but ano bang ok na low-end speakers?
