Mga Sir,ano po main diff between the c521bee and c542 aside from their price and HDCD function? I need both a cd player and a dvd player kasi,so for just the price of the c542 alone i can buy the the c521bee and one pioneer dvd player na instead. pls help me decide. ???

Personally, I would just want an HDCD player just to find out all the hoopla bout HDCD and the better analog filters of such players.  I think for a few thousands more, you could get a well-reviewed C521BEE for 12T and a Pioneer UNiversal player from Ambassador Appliance for 9.8T.  Then you can enjoy great CD sounds and be ushered into the world of high resoltuion DVD-A and SACD.  There are really very few HDCD discs out there.  And more SACDs and DVD-As.

I, too, have second thoughts getting the C542, especially now that the 0% is over.   Am in no rush to get one.  Therre's a good chance they'll put it on sale mid next year.   ;D

HDCD players are great because you can play HDCD disk on them. However, as often mentioned, HDCD disks are few and you really have to search for them unlike SACDs or DVD-As.

But for me, playing HDCD disks is not the foremost reason for acquiring an HDCD capable CD player. HDCD equiped players also improves the sound of regular CDs. "For non-HDCD software, HDCD Precision Filtering improves the accuracy of D/A conversion, producing a sound which is more open, natural and less harsh." - Pacific Microsonics, Inc.

I enjoy playing and listening to almost all types of audio CDs on the NAD C542. Heck, I even find it better than the Arcam CD73T. So much has been said and written about the performance of a C542, and all I can say is that, if you can spare the extra pesos go for it. Considering its price I think it would still fall within the budget range.

Just me.

Ricky, if I were you, I'd either save up for a C542 or wait for a used one. If you're not in a hurry, you can wait next year when it is put on sale.

I also have a Pioneer 676A and quite a few DVD-Audio and SACDs but for the past 2 weeks, I have been listening (and buying) cd's more.

To get the best that DVD-Audio and SACD can offer, you have to get universal players that are at least P25k worth.

How would the 542 compare with a tube CD player? Any feedback? Halos twice the price kasi. Will use it with my Duntonic 3.i and S1

A tube CD just uses a tube buffer op amp instead of the usual integrated chips.  It still uses chips for its digital and analog recovery circuits.  So if you are using tubes in your system, might as well get one.   You can't use the digital output or else you'd be bypassing the tube circuits.     And don't expect to benefit from HDCD playback that the 542 has.  But I am sure there are tube decoders and DACS out there as well, costing thrice that  of the 542.

Not all tube cd players however use tubes merely as a buffer. These players masquerading as tube cd players still utilize opamps to filter unwanted frequencies and provide voltage gain, so the tubes are there merely to impart its brand of coloration. The good tube cd players are those that use the tubes as a gain stage (Jolida JDA100 comes to mind) and utilizes  zero feedback, which is not possible with opamps. I would hazard a guess that a propery implemented tube cd player will rival what an HDCD player can offer.

Ang sama pala ng service ng NAD distributor!

My NAD C542 broke after 6 months of use and I sent it to Sights and Sounds in Shangri-La. 2 weeks na, hindi pa rin nila alam ang sira!  >:(

Everything seems to work, and no error messages, pero no sound comes out of the audio-out jacks.

I wish they just replace the unit so I can start enjoying my music again.

I think you better PM redkoji of Studio System. They're the distributor of NAD here.

I've  heard good feedback re: their  customer support and customer service.
