What are your listening impressions with your Bostons?

What are your listening impressions with your Bostons?

Hi! I'm neither good in putting my impressions in words nor reviewing audio stuff. Lol! But anyway, I'll try my best. :D

When I first heard these speakers at Avshop's place, I could tell that they have a lot of potential. Out of the box sounded a bit tight or "pigil", bass didn't seem to extend that much and quite anemic also. But James (Avshop's attendant) and I agreed that these pair is very promising. We let em run for a few hours then we sat down for some serious listening, hoping for a little improvement. And there it was, the improvement that we're looking for. The A26s opened up a little. From what I've read, the A series needed some run in/ break in time or at least 60 hours to really sound well and open up.

I find them very enjoyable to listen, as if it draws you to the kind of music they produce. They sound big, warm and balanced. Vocals is sweet, which I think is the best quality of these speakers. Good enough highs, no signs of being harsh. Bass is defined and extends well too. They're not tiring at all, capable of playing any genre you throw at them, although jazz and vocals are probably the "forte". I can tell that they'll never fail to impress once properly broken in. :D

Another plus factor here is the price, with the SRP of 16, 500 Php. A cheaper alternative for some well-tested speakers like the B&W 685s, Monitor Audio RX1/BX2, Polk Audio RTI A3, etc. A few bonuses, well-built/designed (quite heavy), magnetic grills, easy to drive and looks good too. Well, what more can you ask for the price, d b? Lol!

Finally, the associated equipment used:

AVshop's Demo Room
Amplifier/s: Marantz PM-Ki Pearl Lite
                 Marantz PM-6004
Rotel RA-1520 (This one gets my vote)

Sources: Marantz CD-6004, IPod Touch via the CDP's USB port.

Accessories: QED cables, QED Speaker wires, Atacama Nexus 6i (24") stands.

At my place, of course the audio gears I currently own. :)

Well, that's it. I hope maintindihan naman yung sinulat ko. Haha!

Thanks for dropping by! :D

It appears to be a speaker with good tonal balance. Your audition did not use a sub right?

Unfortunate news though, my A26s will soon find themselves at the marketplace. I did some sort of miscalculation here  :(. My plan was to place them side by side with the zensors. The A26s for audio/stereo and the zensors for pure movie purposes. Para hindi na ko palipat-lipat ng cables. But now I'm having a hard time placing them there together. The A26s are just too big for the space. Waaaah!  :o
Dapat pala yung size the pwede lng dito ay katulad dn ng zensors. Now I have to downgrade to A25s or other similar speakers.

I'm at the point of really liking and enjoying this pair only to find out they won't be staying for long.  :(

Yes indeed. No sub sir, I think you won't need one. It has plenty of bass, esp here in my small place. I use diy port plugs since malapit sya sa wall.

Hassle nga eh pero ganun talaga. Meron na kong nilagay, okay naman. Space lng talaga consideration ko ngayon. Kaya naman kaso medyo siksik liglig lng. Haha! :)

Yes. Kahit halos dikit sa wall yung V1s okay lng, front-ported naman. So far so good. :D

sir ecks,

Those are sir Nelson's acoustic foams. I placed them there with hopes of reducing or eliminating echoes & resonance. I believe they do have a noticeable effect though I couldn't quantify it. Hindi pa kasi ako ganun ka knowledgeable sa mga ganitong bagay. Hehe! As of now, I have 5 of them placed on different areas of the room. :)

August 23, 2013 Update: Replaced the Boston Acoustics A26 with Tannoy Mercury V1 (Dark Walnut). A more appropriate size for the space. ;D

I'm now a certified fan of small bookshelf speakers! Mercury V1 on Atacama Nexus 6i stands and Dali Zensor 1 on its custom-made stands.  ;)

Got tired of waiting for the Dentons to arrive, decided to get this pair muna.
Boston Acoustics A26 in Woodgrain or Satin Cherry.

Sana magamot nya Dentonitis ko. Lol!  ;D

As simple, compact and clutter-free as it can be.

Still planning a few changes here. I believe there's still room for improvement. Suggestions and inputs are appreciated. For now, I'm happy with this set up. :D
