astig ng setup mo, great view pa of the manila yacht club!

btw, when you get the time, comment naman sa HD player mo and new yamaha speakers - I'm interested in the 333 version kasi terno sa piano gloss finish ng tv ko.

1)  big improvement ba yung HD player?
2) how far are you from your display?

Thanks sanmig & mike  :) Yes the Yamaha NS series with Black Piano Gloss Finish is attractive & will be a matching set esp for your HT that has black color. I will upgrade slowly once budget permits. The next one will be NS 444 & finally NS 333.  ;)

To answer the above questions:

1. Oh yeah esp with my HDTV 720p, the clarity is obvious in view of its 3 times the resolution of standard DVD. :) Though the improvement won't be like day & night but if your eyes know where to scan the PQ, yep you can discern the pic has more details. Color is vivid & certain scenes- object is floating in 3D or you feel you can touch it na.  ;D However, each HD movie PQ depends on its video transfer. Some movies have astounding PQ while others may only seem mediocre.

Also, at 1080p resolution, no doubt viewing at a bigger HD display, the clarity & effect will be more apparent.

2. The general rule of thumb of a comfortable viewing distance is about twice the diagonal screen size (1.5 times if you're using front projector). In my case, my HDTV is 42" so my viewing distance should be at least 84" or 7 feet. However, for general DVD viewing I usually sit about 8.5 feet from the display (depending on your preference & comfort level).  :)

Wow, nice upgrade sir pchin. How's the performance of the Yamaha NS-555 Speaker?  How much was it? It's one of my upgrade options because of the piano finish  ;D. Matches very well w/ the Velo sub and Samsung LCD and DVD player.   ;)

Thanks jojitv & juric. After using it & compared to my previous JBL bookshelf speaker (Frequency response 90Hz-22kHz, Sensitivity 86dB,  Nominal Impedance 4 Ohms & smaller amplifier power), clearly it has no match against the NS-555.  :D I selected this speakers due to its nice design (matching to my other HT gears), performance & affordable price (I can also upgrade slowly on the other NS series).

Here are some reviews on the NS-555 speaker:

Before buying, you may try it out the demo in Listening in Style, 5F Edsa Shangrila Mall :)

Great gears sir. Daming updates.  I was contemplating on getting the NS series speakers last month then to complete the piano finish family but gave those up to get a bigger display.  I'm disposing my NS-C444 center that could compliment your recent speaker upgrade pala posted in the B/S section.  You may be interested.  Very mint ;D

Mike, you can order HD movies either directly from online stores such as Amazon or tru PARC in this forum at the DVD Market place (hassle free). PARC will deliver your order straight to your home or office by Air 21.  :)

Price range from P1,700 to P2,400 depending on the disc type: combo, HD-DVD or BD.

I have no choice as my HDTV has only 1 HDMI port.  :-[

Both my SONY universal DVD player (to view DVD) & Toshiba HD player (to view HD-DVD & DVD Region 1 only) use HDMI. I got tire of keep swapping between the two cables so finally decided to get a HDMi switcher to solve the problem. No more messy unplugging & plugging na  ;D

This will also free my mind from worrying in future should I get another device (e.g. PS3  :P ) that uses HDMI. :)

The HDMI switcher is available at Amazon at $130. Just do a search & you will find it. :)

So far I can't find any local shop that sells it.  :-[
