Local releases to avoid
« on: Apr 26, 2006 at 01:04 PM »

Before Night Falls (no subtitles)
Lord of the Rings 1&2 (poor video quality)

Interview with the Vampire - New cover art, but contains the old single-layer release.
Once Upon a Time in America - Censored version.
Hotel Rwanda - Movie split into 2 single-layer discs.
The Exorcism of Emily Rose - Compressed single layer.
Half Light (2006, Demi Moore)- Full screen, compressed single layer.

At their regular prices of from 750 to 900, I would avoid the following (one I sadly have):

Narnia (the movie) - back label description inconsistent with actual discs and package content,

Pearl Harbor - video-audio sync problems on DTS in second disc.  Don't know if they've corrected this.

Toy Story 1 & 2 - typical of most local Disney animation releases with poor packaging.

Those watered-down magna releases at 299  I can tolerate for their low prices.  Even some C-interactive releases.  But I know some are avoiding these as well.

Don't forget the Sky Captain release from C-Interactive. I know its 199, but after pasting that '1' into the cover,  :-\ .

Aviator
Stuart Little

I probably would get them, if not for their Full Screen aspect.  I wonder if there are HT afficionados here who avoid Full Screen DVDs.

Chicago (2003), 4:3 version, that is, if you want the widescreen version.  Then again, it's on the box, so you get what you buy...

Are all C Interactive movies (like Million Dollar Baby and Phantom of the Opera), recompressed lower bit-rate when compared to R1 or other R3's?

So far, it seems that way.

The Grudge (Sarah Michelle Gellar, C-Interactive, compressed single layer) - Extremely low bit rate for a 92 min. movie.

Using DVD Bit Rate Viewer, C-interactive's average bit rate is 4.1 mbps (P-DVD average bit rate is 5.63 mbps!).  Unbelievable.  :o  It just gets worse and worse.   ???
