onkyo 601 avr in silver finish?
« Reply #157 on: Sep 07, 2003 at 01:22 AM »
been browsing the onkyo website checking out the specs for their new av receivers (i.e. 501,601,701) and it says these receivers are available in silver finish but only in selected markets.

anyone know what markets these silver finish onkyos are available in?

I saw the 501 and it's really silver finish, try to contact Mr. Sonny Tuazon or Hyperaudio, I think pareho lang sila ng price ng onkyo 501 (around 18k).  Go for onkyo 601 mas malufet  ;D.

the onkyo dealer here in KL told me that the silver finish models are for the european market, black for the american market and gold for the asian market. he further told me that even if i could get a silver/black finish onkyo here it asia, it would carry no official warranty support.

is this true? any comments?

of all the colors, gold is the one i least like pa naman - it doesnt match any of my components  :-\

I agree with you.  In one of the forums here I declared that if i were to buy a new receiver it would  not be Onkyo. (I have the black 919THX 1996 model) I just hate their current gold facade and black rubber footing that look like they came from microwave ovens.

Their brochures advertise that their models come in silver, black or gold.  So this is a revelation to me that those colors each have intended markets.  Personally i prefer brushed black panels and Onkyo had those for the Phili market as late as 1998.

Well, i guess if you love the Onkyo sound that much, aesthetics may not matter a lot.  But tt does to me.  Just my 2 cents.

i too prefer black  :-\

i have noticed that yamaha amps and toshiba tv's follow this same trend in that the units made for the US market are black and those meant for the asian markets are metallic in color. makes me wonder about the market research results that indicated asians prefer metallic finishes to black . . .

and lets not forget sony wegas that also come in silver metallic finish. buti nga lately their newer models are part black and part silver.

on the other hand, i notice the really high end stuff either comes in black only or some really expensive wood finish . . .

anyway, back to the topic at hand  ;D

Sorry if i chip-in out of topic, i just would like to get your opinion about onkyo sr501. i almost ask all a/v shops who sells onkyo among other brands like denon & yamaha, & according to them 0nkyo has a more wider soundstaging or in other words it sounds better, especially if its partnered with a mission speaker set-up.

by the way i need your suggestion cause i'm planning to get a pair of m71i for front & surround & m7c1 for center plus velodyne vx10, sub.

hope i'm in the right place, thanks a lot :)

I guess this is the latest here in the Phils and I've just recently setup my system (701 and Mission 70i series)

What DVD player would you suggest me to pair with the 701?  The 701 by the way is THX Select Already, preferably i like a DVD Audio/SACD/MP3 and a progressive scan DVD Player.  Please.. your thoughts...

Thanks

this is kinda OT but why settle for m71i pre? better get the m72i if you can stretch your budget a little. also check out monitor audio B2, although havent auditioned them yet. but then again, members here are giving up their wharfs and missions for the MA B2. you might end up contracting SARS like they did :).

hello everybody,
can you consider onkyo as a musical and warm sounding receiver in terms of music compared to other brands like denon, marantz and nad? thanks for any comment.. :)

There are many members with Onkyo-Wharfe combi and attest to their excellent performance.  I know that Wharfes are rated nominally at 6 ohms.  They make a good match with onkyo recievers that are also rated for 6 ohm speakers.

Wharfs diamonds are fine, get the 8.3 instead of 8.2 if budget and speaker placement permit.

bro, thank you kung ganon. kasi yung onkyo 484 requires speakers w/ nominal impedance of 6 ohms so diamond 8.2 is a good match for front at di na ako magpapalit ng center at surround.

one of the good things about onkyo is their wrat technology. this extends the frequency response from 10 Hz to 100 kHz unlike other receivers. it may not be a good looking receiver but it definitely serves well on my home theatre setup. for me, they are on the warm side which i prefer  ;D imho

Are Onkyo receivers still using that DB-25 terminals for 5.1 analog connection instead of common RCA terminals?  It's so difficult finding a DB-25 to RCA cables.  Thanks.

Pre,

almost all later model receivers have already wide bandwidth (10Hz ~ 100kHz). Especially those with 6-channel analog in for DVD Audio / SACD Playback. And it is not exclusicve only to Onkyos.

Cheers.
