the 602 is not yet available here in manila, baka next year pa 'to

since you're in the onkyo thread, i'd recommend the 502 hehe  ;)
the hk 230 has a conservative rating for watts per channel but it has more power

Now that's something new. Care to elaborate?

under FTC, the right way of displaying power rating is

#Watts/channel, continous @ 8 ohms, #% THD

if you observe, power rating of some receiver is in maximum or pmpo to look more
powerful  and impressive to consumers. This is what we called sales strategy. But, it does not mean they are inferior. ;)

You can check the power rating in 8 ohms (rms) at the back of owners manual or ask the distributor.  ???

Hi, I need an info regarding onkyo or whaterver receiver available locally. I'm in the process of selecting a receiver for a 25sqm space to convert it as an A/V room, what would be a good receiver strong enough to cover the room. I am also thinking of getting a Wharfedale 8.4. Will this be good enough? Any info would surely help my life easier. Thanks

Sir, not that I am against onkyo, but if you will be using Wharfedale 8.4, I would suggest to get a Yamaha 650/Yamaha 750 (approx. P24k+ for 70% HT and 30% Audio set-up) or an Harman Kardon 330 (approx. P30k+ for 50% HT and 50% Audio set-up).

Good Luck!  ;)

Sir,

I think you've got a pretty nice set-up there. No need to replace anything,
except if you're not happy with the way it sound. The set-up seems a little different as compared to the common set-up of the members here, maybe because the speakers (Jamo) are a bit expensive here. From your gear, only the Onkyo 701 I've heard but the set-up looks like a great match (based from the specs alone).

Hope it sounds good and I hope you're enjoying it.

Cheers..

Thanks  Jcob......Well im enjoying watching movies specially dvd and div-x format but since i am based in riyadh, i am just wondering if B&W speakers are better than my jamo...kasi yun ang mga speakers na pinag-uusapan dito sa forum....  speaking of my Onkyo 701.....ok sya.....satisfied ako with the output of the sound....audio man o video...

I love the sound output kapag heavy metal ang nakasalang, ang lupit ng bass nya...

Sir,

Onkyo and B&W is a great match. Actually there's a store here that sells the onkyo and tandem with a B&W speakers. Kasi nga hindi masyado popular ditoang Jamo kasi isa lang yata ang nagbebenta. And I think they're selling the entry level Jamo. Although I read a lot of good reviews about Jamo, I think they're one or if I'm not mistaken the biggest speaker manufacturer.  Sa itsura pa lang ng speakers mo sir, mukang maganda na, I bet maganda ring tumonog yan. But as always, the usual advise here is to audition it side-by-side to know the difference.

enjoy sir and merry christmas to you and to all pinoy there...

I bought an Onkyo TX-SR501 from one of our members here. Currently I'm using Wharfedale modus 3 (100 watts @ 8 ohms) as my fronts and Wharfedale valdus surrounds and center set (100 watts each channel, 4-8 ohms impedance. Now, my problem is parang mas malakas tumunog yung surrounds kesa sa fronts. I experienced this when using the all channel stereo mode pag nakikinig ako ng audio/music. Ang opinion ko, baka nahihirapan ang avr na patunogin ang modus 3 kasi 8 ohms ito while the normal impedance required of the avr for a speaker is 6 ohms. Dapat ko na bang palitan ang fronts ko? A newbee need your advise. TIA
