You have any idea how much the 608 will be in HK?  How do you plan to ship it back to manila?  Di ba medyo mabigat yan for air freight?  Am thinking about going to HK too.

about US$600+ according to Hivizone Hongkong

hmmm... US$6++.  That range can go anywhere from 601 to 699.  Even at US$600 that's 27k in local currency.  Not that much difference.  Though I'm sure its available for less at other stores.  But is it really worth lugging around such heavy equipment through the airport and the risk of the accidents by baggage handlers?

But then again, basing on the prices of the older models especially the Denon 2310, malaki talaga ang difference.

Right now, its not yet available locally.  Was assuming that it would still be in the same range as the 607 as it was the same price as the 606, the 1909 and 1910.  Might be wrong though.

Yes it will be really hassle. Unless the item is shipped to Philippines. Then again one has to calculate the shipping cost + custom fee, etc hence will the expected landed cost cheaper than buying it locally? If there is a big saving then it will be worthwhile considering otherwise save the trouble. ;D

The 2310 may be worthwhile though.  Even if the price wasw 799 USD, as opposed to low 700s, it would only amount to 36k.  I think locally its available for around 47k.

how much is the current local price of the 607?

i was quoted US$620 on the 608 by hivizone and they can ship to the phil by sea at US$35 thru HK post. don't know how reliable is our post office and how much import duties they will charge. maybe it would be cheaper if sent thru JAC HK by sea or the common pinoy couriers. do you pay import tax on boxes sent thru kabayan forwarder or the likes?

been thinking of ugrading my denon 2308 ;D. got to call my ofw friend who bought the 2308. he brought amp right to my doorstep free of shipping charge.

I think Avshop is selling the 607 at 28 or 29k.  If its thru HK post and it passes through the local postal system, siguradong taxed ka niyan.  Not to mention baka masira pa ng philpost yan sa carelessness nila.  JAC may be more feasible.  Then again, shipping might be expensive especially if by airfreight.  Seafreight would be cheaper but you'd probably save more if you had more stuff in the balikbayan box.    I think custom sized boxes are also expensive.

if the 608 is sold locally at 30k, sure it is wise to buy here. but again will wait till the 608 will land on our shores. sa US, the 608 cost only $499, you add $60 sa balikbayan box + other stuff you can throw in the box- mas sulit.

p.s. kasya kaya ang box ng mga avr sa balikbayan box? im sure the bayan box height is not a problem coz it's taller. but the width and length of the avr box may not fit inside the bayan box.

Can get the 608 for around 3,700 HKD (22k PhP) If I pay cash. Mother in law knows someone at Customs. Will call him and arrange for him to be at airport when I arrive. 22k is better than 30+ k. Plus I want 220volt and not 110volt from US. Never quite trust AVR's

just arrived yesterday and today at our friendly neighborhood stores. prices for the onkyo 608 are at 31K cash and 37K SRP...

prices seem to be fair considering the 607 is still at 28K cash and around 33k SRP. small difference to pay for a stronger and THX certified amp.

that's a good deal at 22k peso equivalent sir. to me 110v does not matter coz i always use a voltage regulator.

31k local price is not bad either considering the warranty and hassle when buying from abroad

I think the 110 reference is against US purchases.  HK is also 220v?

@bludevil,
9k is a great deal.  But customs is not really the bigger problem.  Its easy enough to pay them off even if you don't know anybody.  Bigger problem is if you trust the baggage handlers especially at NAIA.  If they mishandle that and you don't declare the full value, there is a limited liability clause on your ticket.  And you know that the warranty will not be honored here or even in hk because of physical damage.  Plus, thats already half of your luggage allowance unless of course you fly in business class.

But then again... that's still about a 30+ percent in savings.

BTW, where did you have that quoted?  Hehehe.

Finally pulled the trigger on the onkyo 608. And even with the 31K price i got I still am satisfied with its performance. Laki ng difference sa tunog and power ng speakers ko compared to the 307 I got before. Plus the THX certification is a welcome bonus.

Next stop... another pair of speakers to complete my 7.1 set up...

currently using wharfes 9.4 so i think the 9.5 will have no problems it will even be better at the set up since it is a better and more powerful speaker. Sound quality specially for Movie viewing is so much better by many levels compared to my previous 307 set up.

easy to calibrate due to audissey set up and the tv menu screen is very convenient. Still getting used to the complexities though dun sa 307 kasi very staright forward lang ang pag setup, dito ang dami options kaya I have to really research kung para saan ang settings na yun.

Only down side is the heat, contemplating on buying an exhaust fan that I will put in the TV rack directky above the reciever to help dissipate heat.

but other than that all expections I had were met and even above. watched Avatar Blu ray and matrix Bluray and enjoyed the experience better this time than when i first watched it using my previous set up

Wow, that is nice. Thanks wacksy. Bka sa July po bibili ako 608. I think the heat generated by 608 is not as hot as the previous 607. Alam ko po kasi may built-in fan na ang 608.

No problem yang heat, mine is the old 606 model and it dessipates more heat pero no problem encountered even if I do movie marathon and ps3 gaming.

Some members got the new 608 locally at 31K+. HK is indeed an AV paradise but if you're planning to get an AVR, it's bulky size & weight hence, lots of hassle....also have to consider custom duties & warranty issues. If the price isn't much different then probbaly it's better to get it locally.

Because I'm not prepared to pay upwards of 35k for a 608. No disrespect intended and this is from personal experience. Having lived in S.E.Asia for the last 4 years I have come to the conclusion that most warranties aren't worth the paper they are printed on. I have also noticed that retailers in this part of the world (unlike the UK) will say ANYTHING to get a sale, and that includes lying and general bullsh@tting. One shop offered me a 30 day limited warranty on a Panasonic 3000 projector. What a waste of my time. If I'm going to hand over 100k for an electronic item I want and Insist on at least 1 year full parts and labour, and not some pre pubescent muppet doing a DIY hack job on my gear. I have a VERY low opinion of Filipino consumer electronics sales persons. But if you can prove me wrong I am all ears.

Last week my brother in law went into a CE shop in Cebu and was informed by a sales person who pointed toward a very old HD READY LCD "buy this one sir, Sony will be dropping FULL HD later this year anyway" What a crock of sh*t. If the guy had tried that line on me I swear I would have bitch slapped him right there in the middle of the store. I do not tolerate people trying to make a tit out of me and unfortunately the local CE stores try to do just that.

oh ok. it's just that discounted price for the 608 is only around 32 thousand.

edit: oh.. just saw your avatar / signature. you're from cebu. i guess you'll have a hard time finding a decent CE store in your location. if you want it fast try calling sonny tuason at 8118443 (with the appropriate prefix).

To all Onkyo fans who are thinking of upgrade or replacement of your existing receiver:

Onkyo Debuts Three THX Certified, 3D-Ready, Network Receivers with Audio Streaming and Multi-Room Functionality

UPPER SADDLE RIVER, NJ, 6/1/10 -- Onkyo, a world-renowned name in quality home entertainment, announced the release of three new mid- and upper mid-range network A/V receivers for 2010: the TX-NR1008, TX-NR808, and TX-NR708. Each of these models is THX® Select2 Plus™ certified and offers the latest processing and user-friendly features to support multi-room set-ups, network audio streaming, iPhone®/iPod®-compatible USB, and fully immersive 3D capable home theater with multidimensional surround sound to match.

All of these models have seven of the latest HDMI® 1.4a connections, specifying compatibility with the new 3D video formats, which promise to bring an exciting new dimension to movies and games in the home. These new receivers are also compatible with the mandatory formats for 3D broadcast content of “Side-By-Side (Half)” and “Top-and-Bottom” 3D video formats.

HDMI is also the conduit for 1080p video upscaling of all video inputs, regardless of native resolution, via Faroudja DCDi Cinema™. On all three of the new Onkyo receiver models, DCDi Cinema works to remove jaggies during the video signal deinterlacing process, resulting in smooth progressive-scan video images.

Each of these network receivers includes a rear-panel Ethernet port that links it directly to the internet or to a home PC. Users can then enjoy superior fidelity from a wide range of audio file types, including MP3, WMA, WMA Lossless, FLAC, WAV, Ogg Vorbis, AAC, and LPCM. They can also access a range of different streaming Internet radio services, from Pandora®, Rhapsody, vTuner, and Sirius Internet Radio®, and newly expanded services from Napster, Mediafly™, and Slacker™ internet radio.

The Ethernet connection brings the added convenience of easy firmware upgrades, which enhance the unit’s functionality going forward. Each receiver is also Windows® 7 compatible and DLNA 1.5 certified to allow audio streaming from other network-enabled equipment throughout the home.

Audio processing on all three models includes the studio master-quality of the industry’s two leading lossless codecs, Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™. Complementing these are the expanded surround dimensions of Dolby® Pro Logic® IIz and Audyssey DSX™. The former provides the option of adding extra height channels for improved ambience, while the latter adds either height or width channels. With the 7.2-channel TX-NR808 and TX-NR708, these extra channels replace the surround rear channels. Meanwhile, with the 9.2-channel TX-NR1008, users have a host of different speaker configurations to choose from.

This flexibility extends to multi-room set-ups. Onkyo’s new A/V receivers open the door to distributed audio in up to three rooms in the home. With the TX-NR708, users can take advantage of a powered Zone 2 or a Zone 2 line out. Meanwhile, the TX-NR808 provides a powered Zone 2, along with pre-outs for Zones 2 and 3. Finally, the TX-NR1008 can deliver 5.1-channel surround sound in the main room, plus fully powered stereo audio of two different sources in Zone 2 and Zone 3.

Along with the two extra amplifier channels and one extra HDMI output, the TX-NR1008 offers further advantages over its two siblings. It is equipped with advanced ISF video calibration controls for independent optimization and fine-grained adjustments of every video source. And it sports an extra 192 kHz/24-bit Burr Brown DAC to handle the heavy demands of multi-channel audio processing.

Each of the three Onkyo models includes a full suite of Audyssey equalization and room-correction technologies to ensure optimal audio performance in any environment and at any volume level. Chief among these is Audyssey MultEQ®, which corrects for time and frequency-response problems caused by room acoustics, and which calibrates speakers for optimal audio balance throughout the listening space.

All three receivers have an iPhone®/iPod®-compatible front-side USB port that allows on-screen display of album art and navigation via the included remote. Other noteworthy features shared by this trio include an analog RGB input for video content from a connected PC; PLL jitter-cleaning circuit technology; and Onkyo’s new overlaid graphical OSD for seamless adjustment of settings during a viewing session.

What a shame Onkyo cuts down the specs at the 1007 > 1008 transition. Other than the HDMI 1.4 & 3D compatibility, there is no longer Ultra2 Plus Certified and just the more basic Audyssey MultEQ (not the XT version).  :-[

Hopefully 1007 will go down in price & I'll get it. ;D
