AFAIK, kung may audio out TV mo (Optical or analog), pwede mo pong iconnect sa AVR mo para lumabas yung sound sa zone 2 speaker.

quick question lang mga sir.

receiver is onkyo 508.
using HTPC hdmi for video and coax for digital sound.

selected HD audio via windows sound settings (audio goes out via coax, stereo or 5.1 etc.)

setup 1:
htpc HDMI > receiver > TV
htpc COAX> receiver

setup 2:
htpc HDMI > TV
htpc COAX> receiver

setup 1 does work but with stereo output only, since my htpc built-in hdmi can only do stereo.
setup 2 works digital audio. (dts and dd)

i already setup my hdmi 1 blu/dvd to coax1 but it does not seem to work, wala na audio at all maski stereo :(
may mali ba akong ginagawa?  :)

setup 1:
htpc HDMI > receiver > TV

hindi kaya may issue yung coax port ng htpc mo, kasi if you set it up that your hdmi will output video only, then with the coax into the receiver dapat nag 5.1 na sya even with setup 1. but you said it outputted stereo, meaning audio and video are coming out via hdmi.

setup 2:
htpc HDMI > TV
htpc COAX> receiver

hence, when you connected hdmi directly to tv. and coax to receiver already. no sound output.

setup 1 does work but with stereo output only, since my htpc built-in hdmi can only do stereo.
setup 2 works digital audio. (dts and dd)

i already setup my hdmi 1 blu/dvd to coax1 but it does not seem to work, wala na audio at all maski stereo :(

kung may dvd hdmi player ka, try to set it up like you did with the htpc. hdmi to tv tapos coax to avr. pag nag work yung 5.1 then baka may issue yung coax port ng htpc.

Update lang sa issue ko sa 608 ko sa previous page.  Naayos na ni Toyama ang 608 ko.  They replaced the HDMI board.

The advice given to me was to avoid removing and reconnecting the HDMI cables while the receiver is on.

Ingat lang while using your own AVRs.  I'm just happy that it was fixed faster than originally mentioned.

That is good to know, my main reason for purchasing local unit is really the warranty, kahit more than 10k ang difference kung oorder sa US.

Same here.  Although if you buy it sa US, if you know someone there, you could ship it back and have it fixed under warranty.  Some would say that the big price difference is worth the hassle especially considering kung dito, walang piyesa, you also have to wait for months for the parts to arrive.

Grabe nga noh... 608 sa US is around 20k landed lang.

I also tried using my DVD player to play those MP3 songs pero the same pa din, walang bass na lumalabas sa sub..pero pag sa movie meron. TIA.

Sir, baka naka-set sa AVR mo that the speakers are full band.  Baka kailangan lang i-set ang cross-over frequency ng speakers mo, it's under Speaker Config Menu. I guess 80Hz is a good start.

check mo kung ano ang DSP ng mp3 mo if its DIRECT or PURE ADUIO wala talagang lalabas sa subwoofer

the reciever decodes accordingly, kung DD or DTS ang movie, lalabas sa panel ng receiver mo yun, whne you shift to music, and the dispaly sayas DIRECT or PURE AUDIO, walang tunog ang sub

Mga sirs question lang po. After performing audyssey calibration, should I change the crossover frequency of all the channels to 80hz(THX)? Or should I stick to the calibration result na lang?

I changed mine sir.  I used this as a guideline, medyo it's a long read lang.  I hope it helps.

Mga sirs question lang po. After performing audyssey calibration, should I change the crossover frequency of all the channels to 80hz(THX)? Or should I stick to the calibration result na lang?

Audyssey calibrates the system based on REFERENCE setting. After calibration, resulting setting will be achieveed accordingly. Any changes you do with the result shifts it to PREFERENCE setting.

Simply put,if your satisfied with the results, you may stick with it and thus your will enjoy REFERENCE setting especially if you set the volume to 0 db or 82 db

If your not happy with the result, you can play around with it until you get your desired result.

Please takenote that what I have posted is not out of expertise but experience gain thru the help of other HT nethusiast and after reading a lot of things about audyssey calibrations.

These are the things I could recall as part of Audyssey reminders:

1. Before doing Audyssey, set your subwoofer GAIN to halfway, subwoofer cross over to the highest setting. Run the Audyssey and if after one mic position you can save the result, save it then review the resulting subwoofer level calibration. If its on the highest + value or closer to it, you need to increase the gain level, if the result is on the highest - value, decrease the gain level setting, according to people i have asked, ideal is to get either a + 3 or - 3 db. Once this is achieved, you may proceed with the rest of the calibration.

2. After calibration, you will get a resulting xover, I was advise before that if I get a value lower than 60 hz, I need to set it at 80 hz (80 hz is the THX recommended setting). If the result is 60 and above, I can maintain it.

3. Subwoofer LPF of the LFE is recommended by THX to be set to 120 HZ.

After doing several run of calibrations, I have observed that the center channel tends to be lower in volume, several forums have also shared this observations so what I do is just adjust the center level calibration accordingly.

Someone alos shared with me that running the subwoofer at 6 db hotter provides very good result and I must agree it does.

Please continue to read on stuff and validate everyting before trying out.

na-check mo na ba sa user manual? ang ibang receiver pagnaka-unplug for extended time nagrereset to factory default. pero kung sandali lang at nagrereset, it's possible nadedrain yung power ng memory chip that keeps your settings.

I would suggest also to call the service center for any advice..  ;D

Turning the receiver off will erase the settings,  there is no backup battery (Onkyo uses Battery Free Memory Backup) and the length of time depends on the capacitor charge.

Are you trying to output HD audio (DTS-MA / Dolby True HD) or just DTS / Dolby Digital? Only the 5000 series will bitstream HD audio. What OS and media player are you using?

Could you check if your Onkyo's HDMI setup>Audio TV Out setting is set to ON (page 41 of the manual). Try setting it to off and try again with your HTPC to see if it outputs 5.1.

Thanks.

DTS and DD only
according to ati 4650 should be able to output HD audio. (but at the moment .mkv with DD and DTS is my priority)
using windows xp, with kmplayer, classic, vlc.  tried with and without spdif via ac3.

Could you check if your Onkyo's HDMI setup>Audio TV Out setting is set to ON (page 41 of the manual). Try setting it to off and try again with your HTPC to see if it outputs 5.1.

have not checked this yet.  BUT my receiver accepts PCM via HDMI, so it should be on.  will double check later  :D

Thanks.

btw let me add i tried a dvd with DD Ex 5.1, i think it worked (not sure) cause for a while DD logo showed via onkyo's screen.  but did not get excited as MKV still streams via PCM stereo only  :(
got tired so went back to digital coax.

Hav a technician replace the memory capacitor. I usually up it to the biggest that will physically fit. It will save you settings when you unplug even for more than a quarter.
