one thing that denon gets right is amp-heat control and untampered HDMI pass-thru. but i must admit, the 608 is so jam-packed with features that it is truly a winner in its price range. even the 508 is also a fantastic offering.

Yup -- ive been reading reviews about the 1911 and the two sides of my mind are now debating heavily. The better sound quality of the denon or the abundant features of the onkyo.  ::)
better sound. What is THX if a non certified unit sounds better?  ;D
GUI overlay is a plus though

For non-digital connections you have to configure the inputs. Turn off all digital inputs for the source where you connected the RCA cables. For example if you connected the DVD player to the BD-DVD input change the setting of BD-DVD HDMI, Optical to --------- in the menu screen.

My new Onkyo 707 ( 4 months old) shut down and would not power up.  Was not happy and with holidays around the corner and new Blue Ray and PS3 in hand needed to act quickly to get it fixed.

I  really needed my Onkyo 707 so without haste I brought it in to the service center on 107 West Ave. Quezon City.  I met Andrew and Peter who run the show and they were most understanding. They told me not to go anywhere and to sit tight as they would evaluate and assess the problem.  They confirmed I blew out the center channel and the unit shut down.  Within an hour they had fixed the unit and sent me on my way.  I gotta tell you they made my day if not my week as my kids are again playing PS3 and I am jamming Santana "Sacred Fire"  with 3 new blu ray discs to be viewed during the holidays.

Thank you Peter and Andrew.  You guys Rock as does Onkyo.

Quick help please...

How will i get my Onkyo 608 display the DTS-HD or Dolby TrueHD?

Specifically;
how will i set my BR player?
Is there a need to change my HDMI cable?

Thanks!

just make sure you are using hdmi 1.3a or b cables. and from the bluray player. please make sure that its bitsteaming the signal to the onkyo. or else your onkyo will just display lpcm or pcm.

They asked me about my speaker wire  connections and volume played.  Neither I could claim would be the problem in respect to my center channel.

were you able to fix the problem? normally you'll have to to go to settings and manually choose to have the player output the audio in bitstream and let the receiver do the decoding. :)

please look at your receivers setting as well, your hdmi input should also be set to output both video and audio or else no sound will come out.

btw, dont use spdif, as this pertains to using either coax or optical digital for audio.
