Yes that's normal. The only way to avoid the heat is to not use pass-through.

Sir Conan,

I noticed that too on my 509.
Does it consume a lot of electricity? Or just a bit higher than standby mode? Thanks!

Mga Masters,
Tanong lang, saan ba icoconnect kapag 6.1 set up ang rear center surround speaker, sa left or right rear terminal ba ng AVR? BTW, I'm using 805. Thanks  :)

EDITED:
Ok na mga masters.
As per AVSForums sa SURR BACK LEFT terminals daw  ;D

Not sure about the consumption but I would imagine it would be more than standby mode as the amp heats up a bit.

I think you'll have to turn off HDMI control, will double check when I get home later.

Mga brader! Im on the market to buy ONKYO 709 but i don't know kung san bibili kung online ba or local store. Mahal kase pag sa local eh compared pag online (kasama na shipping). Pag sa online ako bumili ung warranty ba dun sa retailer (ex Amazon) din? Salamat!

thats the trade-off between imported and local av equipments.the former cost cheaper but no local warranty and in most cases not 220v, while the latter has warranty and 220v but you need to pay more.

i see. i might consider buying 609 from our local stores coz ung price hnd naman ganun kalayo. but for the 709 its way too expensive here at our local stores. I guess the big difference between the 609 and 709 is their Audyssey. Since this is just my first receiver, might as weel start with the mid-entry level 609 and upgrade from there. :)

Or you can check also other brands like Denon.

pre-outs are very useful kung gusto mo magdagdag ng extra power without upgrading the AVR itself  ;D

I was just about to ask what is the use of pre outs. hehe..

Anyway, follow up question, since ill be buying a 609 or 709, how will i connect my logitech z5500 to the receiver since the logitech has it's own "audio processing". Can i just connect the speakers/satellites to the receiver? How about the subs?

edit: in other words, how can i make my receiver to process the sound instead of the internal processing of z5500? Thanks! :)

Need help in setting up my AVR.

When I power on the amp, the display panel shows "Resolution Error" but after a signal is fed to it, from NMT or DVD it does not show anymore. I'm using a 720p plasma thru HDMI. What settings do I need to set? I tried "pass through" and "720p" in monitor out of the menu but still it shows the error message.

Sir Weng, I'm just curious on whether you've tried using different HDMI cables?

That's normal with Onkyo. I think it has got something to do with HDMI shakehands, because after a while it's ok.

I don't experience this with my set-up though my TV is 1080P resolution.

I'm using a panasonic 5-meter HDMI cable which has no issues with my previous Denon amp. This error did not affect the performance or usage though but I just want to get rid of that error message during start up. I thought that it has to do with the set up only coz when the NMT is playing or changing from one source to the other, the error message is gone. I will post a pic of the error message later.

Most probably depending on the TV or the video source. Because as Sir Conan said, he never experience it. I'm using a Samsung by the way.

I get resolution error message on my Onkyo 1008 whenever I set the media player (PCH) to a PAL setting that is not supported by my TV - which implies that the Onkyo is correctly passing through the signal that is sent out from the source, but my TV can't display it.

My suggestions:

1.  Try to upgrade the FW of your Onkyo to the latest one.  I did this the 1st time I powered my 1008, and there was in fact an update available (as of May 2011)

2.  Have you tried setting all sources and the Onkyo to 1080p?   I noted that your Plasma is 720p but it should be compatible with 1080p input via HDMI, unless it's a very very very old model.

3.  All your sources (NMT, DVD, etc.) are also set to 720p right now?  I think I've seen transient resolution error when I switch from a 720p source to a 1080p source.  Transient because the error is gone once you hear that characteristic TIK TIK sound of the Onkyo as it recognizes a signal from a source.

Sinubukan mo nang ilakas ng husto ang volume ng AVR?  One thing I noticed about AAC, sobrang hina ng volume via AVR.   Baka lang..hehehe
