between 809 and 1009, not much except that the 1009 is 500 USD more expensive

but if it its 3009, ibang iba, MultEQ XT versus MultEQ XT32 kaya lang 2.5K USD and 3009

Is there a big difference between the 709 and 1009?

Is there a big difference between the 709 and 1009?

Some certification like ISF, better video processing (HQV vida), bigger & heavier power supply (1009 is 5olbs.vs. 30lbs.), different faceplate.

I recommend 3008 instead of 1009 halos magkapresyo lang sila ngayon.sabi nga ni onkyo606 ibang iba ang xt32. Ramdam mo difference sa subwoofer equalization kahit naka dual subs ka pa. ;D

Bro Louie_18,

Makisingit lang ako!
Hehehe.. Andito na 809..
Uhmmm.. It's HUGE!!! Haha.. I thought it was big, but not this big. (",)

Was a little nervous hooking it up and powering it on.. Kasi if mali ako.. Sabog ako! Hehehe..

So far so good.. Will do Audyssey MultEQ tonight. Pero so far so good.

nothing much that matters to basic requirements, if your particular with aesthetics like me,1009 is way better apart from the ones cited by sir nogie

for some unknown reasons though, the 809 went on sale around 700 USD, while the 1009 remains to be around 1.5K USD, the almost 50% price difference is not worth it in my opinion, the 3009 is around 2.5K USD

sir nogie was saying you can get the 3008 now for around 1.4K USD.

Hi sir.. San meron 3008 na 1.4k lang?  ;D ;D

Sa amazon sir, i bought mine for $1.3k++ early this year when the 2011 models were introduced in the market. Abangan mo lang sir paglabas ng 2012 models babagsak ang presyo ng 3009 as low as $900 usually lumalabas yon sa lightning deals. Inaabangan ko din yon.  ;D

Pero kung hindi issue ang open box meron 5008 (1.5kusd) sa amazon warehouse deals.

pobox.ph, manila forwarders, alas cargo usually 24-30 days ang waiting time. Pinakamura ang alas cargo, jumbo box nila nasa $60 lang at pick-up na sila sa US address mo. ;)

Check the settings of your PS3, you might want to do manual Sound configuration. Pag naka auto isasama nya lahat nang PCM settings.. Pag manual just check what you need.. DTS, DD, DTS MA, DD True HD and some PCM settings that you might need like 2 channels...

Hey guys!

Sorry, been busy for the past few days with family and holiday celebrations.
I'm setting myself up naman this week for our weekend camp in Clark..

Update:
With the Current setup:
1500Watt Samwon AVR -> Onkyo 809 -> Cal's "Magic" Cables for LR, *Rega Quattro's for C, SnS free cables for Surrounds, connected to RTi A3's for LR, A6 for C and OWM3's for Surrounds, with Egreat S100 NMT as source and LG LED as Display.

Initial impressions:
A. Setup
- Takes a bit longer since I opted to do the 8 point Mult EQ Calibration. Even if my space isn't that big, I still did it hoping to help my AVR understand my living area.
- Was able to rename my Sources with the "edit Name" feature.
- I noticed the rear of the AVR is also more organized and not as cramped together as the 509, so it's easier to re-locate the banana plugs when I need to remove and connect to audio setup.
- I initially used Bi-Amp setting, but since it took time to remove and put back the jumper plates when I wanted to listen to music, I went back to normal setup using Cal's speaker wires. Looking forward to the Center speaker wire and jumpers from him.
- I was able to program the remote to control the TV as well. This AVR has online database query for remotes and devices, unfortunately, my DSL is still down, so I had to input the codes manually. Was able to find the right codes eventually, however, I miss having the "Home" Button working on the TV as well. now whenever I press Home button, it switches back to "Receiver" instead of "TV" and accesses the Receiver's Home menu.

B. PQ
- I've set the video to "Through" and so far, I'm getting 24bit RGB color, 1080p 60Hz.
- Color is superb, however, I also upgraded my HDMI cables to Audioquest Pearl's. Black's are deeper and I love watching movies on Cinema mode now because "theatrical" na yung skin tone. Hindi na ganun ka-pale. I couldn't compare it with my 509 kasi it didn't have a Video "Info" option.

C. SQ Movies
- If I were to describe my current movie-watching experience, I would call it "Enveloping".
- My surrounds seem to have come alive and it has more impact compared to just hearing sound coming out from it before.
- New features on this AVR is THX mode and Dolby Volume. I still prefer using the original audio format with Audyssey EQ on and Dynamic Volume off. Dolby Volume lowers the volume of "explosive" scenes and tames it. What's the power for if I have that on.. Hehehe..

D. SQ Audio
- Definitely more power compared to my 509. However, I feel that the sound is still sharp and bright if I play music via HDMI.
- I'll try out the analog input with a tube buffer and DAC and see if it smooths out. But still, I realized I'd rather use my "Low-Power" T-Amp setup. Way more electricity savings, lalo na since I love to leave the music on for a long time.

E. Overall
- I am pleased with this 809 as an upgrade and glad that I was able to get it on sale. I believe, I still haven't maximized it's full potential considering I'm still based in a condo. Maybe when I move over to a house na a few years later. Maybe even add a pair of A9's to go with it. Hehehe..
- Should you upgrade to 809? Well, considering my total cost is way below local market value, shipping was free, plus low exchange rate, it was a good upgrade for me. However, if you're condo based and you'll buy it at local retail price, it may be over-kill and not worth the double price difference comparing the price of 509 and 609. But that's just my 2 centavos. Hehehe.. If you can afford it, then GO! Hehehe.. Work hard and play hard lang naman e..

F. What to try next..
- Center Speaker wires from Cal
- Jumpers from Cal
- Audio setup via Tube buffer and DAC with Laptop as source going to analog input.
- Pictures.. (hehehe..) sorry, madilim na ngayon e..

Pasensya na sa mahabang post... Hehehe.. Thanks for reading up to this point!
Have a great week ahead! God bless and happy new year!

Just tried your suggestion bro!
Busog yung sound. I'm -12.0dB below Reference level, and it's loud already. I'm using Pure Audio mode. Malayo yung sound sa 509 ko. As in MALAYO! Hehehe.. Thanks for suggesting that bro.
Hehehe.. Pero takot ako to leave this on ng matagal. Baka mag-spin electricity meter ko..
But the SQ is awesome! I'm playing via USB some flac files. Parang naka-on yung subwoofer ko pero hindi. RTi A3's lang.

UPDATE:
I still prefer the T-Amp with tube buffer though. Mas malambing. I feel the Pure Audio is a little boomy. Mas gusto ko sound stage nito.. hehehe.. For now..

Well kung gusto mong makatipid kahit konti sa kuryente di ba? no other equipment running kundi receiver kasi kahit sya na mag play nang mga flac instead of NMT or other amps he he he...

So far i play my music just using the receiver and no other player.. mas maganda kasi tunog eh he he he

the onkyo tx nr809 is currently being sold here in singapore for around 45k pesos, the 709 for roughly 35k. will these be good buys considering the local price in manila? will there be any problem bringing the unit in through our airport (tax issues etc)? please help.

I think so. It reads my Fat32 formatted USB drive.
I've read in some fora that they have their HDD's formatted to Fat32 and they load their uncompressed files there to play music.

You can access the flac files using the "USB" mode. It sounds really good. Almost close to my tube + T-Amp setup. You can also connect an iPod directly to the USB port. No need for a dock. However, for "energy-saving" purposes, I leave the music playing to my audio setup. less than 50W total consumption, compared to 700+ sa 809.

Brader i dont think it will consume 700 watts on mild listening... The higher the volume the higher the wattage consumption.. Unless todo ka lagi mag patugtog he he he

Sir Louie  my 3008 can read flacs thru ntfs or fat32. I'm currently using a western digital 1.5tb elements for music playing thru usb. You can also use your ipod to act as your browser for the hdd contents so there's no need to open your tv or pj.

sir Jc ang consumption ng 3008 ko is around 85 to 100 watts based sa watt meter so most likely lower yung consumption ng 809
