I know and I'm completely agreeing with you (same company and same sonic sound). Apparently the model I need (Denon 1813) was way out of my budget. Maybe next upgrade... hahahhha.
sorry for rubbing it, but 1713 @ that price is really a bang for your buck.  (last na ito bro promise ;D)
but if youre using wharf or mission, for me safe bet is onkyo :)

No component video in :P (wag na mambuyo, nandyan na eh, hahhaha). At nandyan din si MarketPlace.

So either this will be another lesson-learned, or a great surprise :)

set all your speakers to 80 hz then set the sub to 120hz. your speakers and sub will produce sound together from 80 to 120 hz and blend with each other.

pero i think mas maganda yata pag HDMI, by the way anong gamit mong speaker

Pero automatic switching yon.  Kahit anong setting ng receiver, if you are using ARC properly, my Onkyo auto switches the source indication to TV/CD.  My default source sa HDMI ARC is "renamed" BD + NMT BTW.

if the result is 60 hz and above for the speaker level calibrations, Audyssey recommend to keep the results but this is dependent off course sa frequency response ng speakers mo. As recommended by Audyssey, all speaker xover are set to 80hz while the LPF of the LFE is set at 120 hz. There is no xover setting for the subwoofer in the receiver, its called Low Pass Filter of the LFE and not xover.

DISAPPOINTING to a large extent

Im trying to love the unit that Ive purchased pero wala talaga.

First, using push/pin type speaker terminals, hindi kasya mga gauge #16 to #12 speaker wires ko, so i need to flatten it using pliers at maisuksok lng yung maliit na part.

To give overview and before I gave detailed review at a later time as Im still trying to find the best settings... baka magkaroon ng improvement (sana)

Music Quality
Walang dynamics, walang warmth and soul... as in day and night ang difference sa sound ng Marantz, I know the sound of Marantz for 10 years so Im very familiar how it perform for every test music I tried (usually from jheena lodwick, Patricia Barber and that Best of AudioPhile Female voices CDs). The Onkyo sound is just full body and punch and that's it, walang reverberation (which is Marantz Signature).
Separation of instruments can be barely heard in Onkyo, halos walang details.

You really need to pump the volume to hear the colors, pero it will be too loud...

And Im missing direct mode (sub off) in Marantz, wala bang ganung option sa Onkyo? Kasi direct mode nila nakaengage pa rin sub.

Movie Sound Quality
I thought this was Onkyo's strongest spot, expected to have a full body sound.. okay okay... Pero wala pa ring dynamics. If you are a person who loves bass and shake, then this is yours, but do not expect to be amazed at it lacks details and dynamics, hindi engaging.

I may keep this for the moment due to convenience at para masanay rin ako sa sound nya, baka may ibubuga pa (or masyado lang akong obsessed sa Marantz sound).

Actually I did not expect much, as they are both entry level receiver; it's so disappointing that the manufacturer added all the features you need but left the sound quality big time.

No more Onkyo products for me :) I was right all along since 10 years ago :)

Kinda weird that gauge 16 does not fit, most users pa naman uses that gauge.  maybe this unit was meant for htib type speakers.

i think this is common with entry level receivers, pero sa onkyo 508 ko before playing loud ends up with little distortion.

And Im missing direct mode (sub off) in Marantz, wala bang ganung option sa Onkyo? Kasi direct mode nila nakaengage pa rin sub.

how about pure audio option, meron ba?  pero dapat sa direct wala na nga sub.

Thanks.

I purchased it kay Ondoy (his units I think galing sa ibang bansa) not from a dealer, I have no intention to return it to him just because Im not satisfied.

Like I said, I may keep this for the meantime.

with the 2 models you mentioned, marantz had the upper hand.
better room correction and the ACTUAL rated power/watts per channel :)

read Philanders post nalang just to get an idea, onkyo 606 in todays standard is just an entry/starter level receiver.

thats why i always suggest to buy second hand, mid to high level rather than buying BNEW entry level...
you wont expect much for entry level receiver...
it wont feed you speakers well...

I may agree on this, however my Marantz entry level can drive my speakers well without distortion. The .08 THD (Marantz) vs 1% THD (Onkyo 313) might have an effect on real application.

Nope. Made by Transparent brand (http://www.transparentcable.com/ ) yung sa akin, not transparent yung wire housing.

Its really a thick cable.

its really hard to compare entry level before and the current entry level that we have this days..
now a days - cost cutting sa parts ang mga manufacturer...
power rating now e may daya na rin....like what you have stated above...
the only advantage of your onkyo to your marantz is HDMI and hd audio ....

Sir the problem is with pch a400 especially with hd audio

whenever i turn on the video upscaling of Onkyo 1007 & play on my pch-a400 a movie w/ DTS HD or TRUE HD audio napuputol putol ang sound nya.

Pero to confirm these analysis i will try to use my yamaha rx v371 kung tama nga analysis.
