question lang sa mga Onkyo AVR, same din ba sa inyo na super hot sya? kasi may Rotel and HK din ako pero hindi nmn ganun ka hot kapag ginagamit, pero yun Onkyo grabe sa init kaya nilalagyan ko pa ng Fan.

gamit mo ba yang 313 na asa signature mo?
i got 308 before and it was hot ..
lagyan mo lang ng usb fan...

Hi! I'm in the process of getting an Onkyo 616 and I just want to check if the sound difference from a Pioneer VSX 921 is significant and also if it gets very hot as well. I'm using Polk Audio speakers:

TSi300
CS10
PSW110
TSi100
Wharfedale WH2 surround

Thanks in advance for any notification.

click for larger image nalang :)

can i use a power amp for Front Left and Right preouts?  then surround back left and right preouts for bi-amp using a power amp as well?

it would go like this:

Front Left and Right  preouts  > power amp > Front speaker (low)
Surround Back Left and right preouts  > power amp > Front speakers (high)
Front Wides Left and Right from 807 > front wide speakers

or should it be:

Front Left and Right  preouts  > power amp > Front speaker (low)
Bi-Amp Left and Right from 807 > Front speakers (high)
Front Wides Left and Right from 807 > front wide speakers

reason im asking is if i were to purchase a power amp, i would like to know if i need to buy a 2 channel or 5 channel power amp.

it would go like this:

Front Left and Right  preouts  > power amp > Front speaker (low)
Surround Back Left and right preouts  > power amp > Front speakers (high)
Front Wides Left and Right from 807 > front wide speakers
mali yata yan bro. i doubt you'll get front signals from the surround back preouts even if you set to biamp. when set to biamp mode the processor will divert any surround back signals (from full 7.1 encoded source) to the surrounds and feed the 807's internal surround back amplifier section with signals from the fronts.

if you plan to get a 5 channel amp, my suggestion is to use rca splitters for the 807 front preouts then use the power amp front and surround channels to biamp the front, then 807 center preout to HK center to drive the center speaker.
807 front preouts -> RCA splitters -> power amp fronts -> front woofers
-> power amp surrounds -> front tweeters
807 center preout -> power amp center -> center speaker
807 surround speaker outs -> surround speakers
807 front wide speaker outs -> front wide speakers
807 surround back speaker outs -> cmiiw, wala na dahil 807 can only handle 7 channels. so you have 2 fronts, 1 center, 2 surrounds and the remaining 2 channels are either zone 2, front wides, front heights or surround back. and audyssey discussions always recommend wides before heights.

Get matching front and center speakers first. :)

The Onkyo 805's internal amp is quite powerful already. But adding a separate power amp in the future may still help.

I find my Onkyo 818 too bright sounding, my old 606 doesnt sound like that in fact it's a little warm to my taste.  So I wonder if Onkyo has changed their sound signature recently, it's still full bodied but on the bright side.

Any ideas how I can tame the brightness?  I set the treble to -10 but I dont think it changed (I think it doesnt work when Audessey is turned ON).  I'm using ecosse 2.3 speaker cables.

Thanks!

What speakers are you using? Is it angled towards the sweet spot? Are the speaker grills on?

Old mission m7 series speakers.  I wonder if the brightness is normal with the new onkyo's, because my old onkyo 606 doesnt sound bright.

Yes, I think the newer Onkyo receivers are on the bright/detailed side compared to the older models. I'm using Dynaudio speakers with Onkyo 809.

To tame brightness, try reducing the toe-in angle and put the speaker grills on. There's also a manual EQ which you can use.

Grills are on, l set the treble to -10 already but it doesnt seem to change, does the adjustments on treble and bass work with audessey enabled?

this was mentioned by Paul before that the 809 was on the bright to detailed...
as i found the 805 somewhat on the warm side...which paul agrees as well.

@busabos
your onkyo was wanting you to upgrade your speakers hehe just kidding....

you may need to have your room treated ...if setting on the receiver will not tame it

I'll get some absorbers soon.  I still find the onkyo's sound full bodied at times but really bright to my taste.  I'll try to play around with Audessey and will provide an update later.

I tried without Audessey and brightness was tamed, still bright but more manageable, however it' s less dynamic.  Does it mean that I have to re run Audessey?

Just to make sure I understand Audessey correctly, If I turn Off Audessey and just leave Dynamic EQ ON and then copy the settings when Audessey is turned ON (distance, crossover, etc.), would the SQ be the same as if Audessey is turned ON or will be somehow different?  Is there like a special adjustment being done in Audessey that cant be achieved by manual config?

Parang gagawin mo i run mo aud and then after mag finish ang aud naka set na siya pero parang mag manual ka to add change the settings na niset ng aud with your preference? Tama ba ako?

after irun aud -
check ko kung tama ba nilagay

lets say
Right front -7
Left front - 7
center 7.5
left surr -2
right surr 7

itest tone ko ulit un...
magbase ako sa tenga ko ...kung tama i leave it as is kapag medyo hindi ko marinig ung surr i will add .5 db to 1db

tapos punta ako sa setting ng onkyo

may option dun

AUD
OFF
Manual

pinaglaruan ko

mas ok kapag pinili ko ung manual
pero wala akong babaguhin hehe..
