Is the 636 a reliable model? Saw a lot of negative comments from user especially the burning unit, happened more than once.

Hello po, I'm using 608.. Sinubukan ko po ang Chromecast at gumana naman pero sa HDMI Aux sa harap lang.. Sa ibang HDMI input sa likod ayaw or walang audio.  Ano po kaya reason?

Thanks Louie. Im worried about the heat, board problem, and durability issues of the Onkyos. Based on experience, are they true? A number of members are posting problems they have with their units. Pero I want to own one.

From 608 to 805 to 5009... I never had any problems...
Its getting hot but with proper ventilation and small exhaust fan would greatly help. I also heard that Onkyo 3030 is already available locally :)

So here's the story of my 809 na nanahimik.  Brought to Toyama expecting expensive HDMI board replacement and long waiting time.  A few days later, gawa na raw and ang na replace lang ay 2 pcs of resistors sa sound output circuit daw.  Ehhhh!   Anyway so far so very good and I think we are lucky na walang bumili when I offered it for sale even before bringing to the Onkyo service center.

Since ala ako sa Phils, it's my Wife who handled the repairs.  Ang di ko sure kung saan banda talaga yung resistors na pinalitan.  Nasa HDMI board ba yon or the so called sound output circuit ay ibang part.  Na remedyohan lang ba ng service center?   Hehehe.  Anyway, gumagana na nga talaga ulit so no complains muna.  3 months warranty naman yata ang Toyama.

Nice sir!

Yung output circuit is probably the amplifier section, which is highly repairable.

have anyone tried to bring an AV receiver via check-in luggage from abroad?  i'm contemplating on doing it as the Onkyo 828 AVR prices are marked-down to $599 in Amazon ... i'm not worried about the tax as they no longer open the luggages in NAIA, but not sure if packaging can withstand the handling for check-in baggage

I was able to take home a Sony STR-DE845 from LAX via check-in luggage and it arrived in good shape. However, this is way back 2001 so it might not be relevant.

basta hindi gagalaw galaw sa loob ng maleta or a bigger box yung Onkyo box.  medyo mataba (mataas) lang ang Onkyo so my concern is kung kasya sa taba ng maleta yung buong box - tough hard shell sana for added protection.   I use lots of loose styro to fill all space...mixed with bags of potato chips para mas madali mapuno ang empty spaces na walang added weight halos.

or are you thinking na yung Onkyo box lang itself ang check-in?  Ibabato-bato sigurado ng baggage handlers yon.  Tapos mainit sa mata ng TSA yon especially sa connecting flights sa mainland. Also, makakalusot ba yon sa NAIA kung kitang-kitang electronics?  I noticed na wala ngang bukasan ng maleta sa NAIA recently but what about obvious electronic items?

Kaya yan. Balutin mo lang ng mga damit tapos duct tape mo. Makapal na madaming damit. Done it before kasi short haul lang from Hong Kong.

Use a balikbayan box and put lots of jeans / clothes around it bro...  and congrats on your newly resurrected 809 :)

In my case, the box was too bulky to fit in the luggage so I just wrapped the AVR in two towels. I think I was just lucky that the receiver made in through in perfect condition.

Share ko lang. Just recently pinasabay sa sister in law ko yung Sony Projector. What they did is pinasok sa loob ng balikbayan box yung mismong box nung PJ and added some pasalubong items. Ok naman pagdating dito sa Pinas. Mas sensitive pa yung pj coz of the lens ;)

Yung balikbayan box ba passes the maximum allowable size of regular check-in luggage or considered oversized na by airline companies?

One possible issue is the weight limit (50lbs) per check-in luggage.   The gross weight of the 828 is nearly 40lbs yata (with its own box).  Remaining 10+ lbs. is pretty tight kaya kapag binalot mo pa ng damit or towels, ubos agad yon.  Bags of potato chips with loose styro should be better.  Anyway, reasonable to assume na isang buong maleta equivalent - that means sayang isang luggage for bubongs and other stuff except kung wala talagang check-in luggage in the first place.  Eto naging dilemma ko with my 809.  Kung papadala sa US for free repair sana, its gross is nearly 48lbs (net around 40lbs) kaya impossibleng ilagay pa sa maleta or a bigger box without exceeding 50 lbs. for a regular check-in luggage.   So libre man ang repair costs, ang gastos and hassle naman sa shipping to and from the US.  Buti nalang na-repair sa Toyama so much cheaper than I expected.

planning to place it in my luggage ... it should fit into my huge bag ... tambakan ko na lang ng damit at chocolates ... duck tape suggestion is a good idea to reinforce the box ... i think that balikbayan box is not an option for me, baka buksan at ma-tax pa ako - i don't stay long term in US, 2-3 weeks max lang every time i go there ... i've brought several delicate electronic items before, but nothing this big and this seems to be more delicate ... thanks for the suggestions ... hopefully they reduce the price further when i get there end of Feb :)
