Hmm, AVR-1909 seems to be ok for my next upgrade. Hope it comes sooner that scheduled.

Read the WHAT HI-FI review for this model and got 5 stars.

Looks promising and Im targetting this for my next upgrade. Any idea when it will be available???

Sights and Sounds Shang  or Theaterworks Trinoma.  Both carry Wharfes and Both carry Denons. Not sure if they'll have the 1907 though. Have been using A Wharfe Denon combination and have been quite pleased with the results. If f you're bent on getting a Denon you might like to check out the new models as posted above.

Cheers,

W O W ,   a Denon 1909 at 23k !    This will definitely beat the onkyo 606.   Will also get one once I get a chance to go to Makati  ( am from the province kasi).   Ask ko lang is the 1909 has pre-amp outputs?

Sir pa-check naman ng 2308 and 2808 diyan sa SG tutal bibili ka naman ng 1909. Pasuyo lang.  ;D

Btw, is there any significant difference between 1908 and 1909?

Sir,
Ive a friend in Singapore willing to purchase and ship for me but he's not familiar with the stores. Do you have the addresses of the stores that are often the lowest in pricing? Thanks!

hehehe....I think most of the current AVReceivers have a sub-woofer pre-out.....some actually have two....like the mid to high-end Yamaha receivers..... ;)

But for the other 5, 6 or 7 channels, most of the receivers only have these features on the higher models and not into their entry level model....except maybe for Marantz.... :)

got my 2308 last oct 2007 from hongkong for only 27k pesos equivalent. most probably it is cheaper now coz of the recent release of the xx09 models in the market

Sirs,

I'm about to replace my old Onkyo 601 with either a 606 or 705.  I was at Park Square earlier when I chance by a Denon AVR reseller ... I'm doing some research and would need some help from Denon users in the thread.  I'd just like to ask if Denon AVR's are a good match for Dali speakers - I'm using Dali Concept 6 floor standers, and also planning to get a Dali Concept center to replace my old Infinity VH1 center speaker.

I would also appreciate feedbacks from those who made comparisons of the Denon 1909 or 1908 with Onkyo 606 and 705.

Thanks in advance guys  :)

I did my own research from other forums and expert/user reviews ... I decided to pull the trigger and get the Denon 1909 ... Initial impressions are great - it's a noticeable improvement from my previous Onkyo 601, and I haven't even tweaked it yet ... currently only my fronts are connected, i'll be installing the other speakers this weekend and setting up the system using Audyssey - can't wait to see the outcome.

The only caveat is the remote control and the user manual - both are not user friendly compared to the Onkyo's.  Another thing is that the 1909's sold in the US comes with two remote controllers,  the models sold here only comes with one RC.

Sir Raptor, just like you I made a shortlist...my choices are the 706 & 1909.

My requirements are as follows;

1. With Pre-outs (all channels)
2. Audessy Dynamic Volume & Eq
3. atleast 75 or higher watts

I hope you can make a detailed review of the 1909.

This will be my first setup so I want to get it right the first time, mid level setup would be just right.
Im planning to get the Dali Ikon 6 but what are you using for center?

TIA

I'll try my best to write a review after I completed my setup, probably next week - i've been out of town this week and did not have a chance to properly setup my gears.  My review would be basically a comparison with my previous receivers/amplifiers - i've used a kenwood (integrated stereo amp pa), a pioneer, and two onkyo's for the past 15 years or probably more.

Regarding your requirements, the Denon 1909 meets your requirements 2&3, but not the first one.  Denon 1909's pre-out is only for the sub-woofer ... just wondering why you need the pre-outs for all channels as you mentioned that this is only your first setup - in my case, I used to have separates (during the kenwood days) and I must admit that that was the best setup that I had in terms of stereo music sound quality, but the AV Receivers I've used so far had been sufficient all-rounders (music, radio, and movies) delivering superb quality in medium sized room.

By the way, I'm using Dali Concept 6 floor standers for my fronts and planning to buy the Concept Center speaker ... initially I'll be using my old Infinity Video-1 center speaker and another old pair of Bose model 100 rear speakers... I do not have a subwoofer yet - sold my Velodyne VX-10 a few months back to another pdvd member (back then, I was thinking that I do not need a sub-woofer since I seldom use my AVR for HT ...now that I have a new AVR, i'm itching to get another one  ;D)

I finally setup my Denon 1909 last weekend.  I have the following connected -

Speakers - Dali Concept 6 (Fronts), Dali Concept Center, Bose Model 100 (surround speakers), no subwoofer for now
Display - Panasonic 42PV8
Sources - Pioneer DV400 and Popcorn Hour A100

My observations:

I mentioned on my first post that my first impressions on sound quality were impressive - this was when I only installed the front speakers (without any tweak on the setup) and tried to listen to few cd music and fm radio.  My point of comparison was the Onkyo 601 that I replaced.

After setting up the 5.0 speakers and using Audyssey for auto setup, my first impression that it is impressive turned to WOW!  Never had my system sounding this good (music listening and movie viewing).  I can say that the Dali speakers may probably be a better match for the Denon than the Onkyo, but the big difference was likely the Audyssey feature - there's a very noticeable improvement after I ran the Audyssey auto setup.

On the downside, I really don't like the remote control and the user manuals - both are not user friendly ... Denon really made a mess on the remote control ... this is the first time that i saw a remote control with control buttons on both sides (front and back) .... anyways, this should not be a reason not to get the unit - the performance far outweigh the shortcomings on the remote contol and manual.
