The Da Vinci Code
« on: Sep 03, 2006 at 06:38 PM »
from davisdvd:

Early info on Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's upcoming The Da Vinci Code is already out on the web.  Due on November 14th, the big-screen adaptation of Dan Brown's mega best-seller arrives as a two-disc anamophic widescreen special edition with more than 90 minutes of extras shot in high definition exclusively for this release.  Expect more details on those when the set is officially announced. Interestingly, the packaging will feature hidden phrases from the film that can be viewed only with a backlight or magnifying glass.  One hidden message will lead to exclusive online content.  Retail is $29.96.

Also available will be The Da Vinci Code Gift Set which will add a customizable working replica of the cryptex device (with a clue inside that can lead to a trip to Europe and other prizes) and a full-sized reproduction of Robert Langdon's journal from the film containing notes.  Retail for this is $80.96.

I hope this one's similar or even better than the R3 given it's price.

I am wary of any Magnavision's gift set.  After being burned by their Jurassic Park and Gladiator boxed set.  I am not touching any of their gift or box set. :(

This should be better than the R3 or R2. I prefer the english version regardless of the price.

I doubt that. $80 is the retail price and not the discounted price from let's say... Amazon.

dunno about the R1 but the R3 is also an extended version.

I haven't seen a pic of the R1 giftset but if it comes with a cryptex too then i suppose the only difference would be a slight variation in the packaging... let's wait for more info about the R1 giftset and some pics.  ;D

Ganito kasi ang nakalagay sa R3 specs sa DVD Asian.com eh:

Deluxe Boxset Contains:

01.Outer box, Cryptex
02.(8 pages booklet)
03.Langdon dairy
04.Certificate with serial
05. Double disc DVD with approx.30 mins

Maybe the approx. 30 mins ang extension but it could probably be "approx. 30 mins of special feature on the Making of The Da Vinci Code". ;D

Anyway sana lahat extended na para lahat kayo masaya. :)

Here's the R1 giftset. It is literally a box. I think I'll settle for either the R3 or the Japanese version. Also, here's a photo of the cryptex and the Langdon diary. The poster says it (the cryptex) is an authentic working replica. Would anyone know if thr R3 and R2 cryptices are working replicas as well?

Based from the small writings on the poster, I don't think the R1 release is the extended version. So for me, it really is a choice between the R3 & R2. Hmmm. On one side (R3) is a DTS track. On the other (R2) is a bonus disc and excellent packaging. What do you guys think?

Off topic since this is R1 forum, but Astrovision is now taking preorders for the Gift set (Cryptex, Journal, DVD and box) at 2,300 Php and 895 for the 2-Disc DVD only version. You get a 500-piece puzzle if you preorder.  Release date is October 10, 2006.

really depends on your budget, of course. for me, i cant afford the r2 giftset. i already have too much in my shopping cart from oct to dec  :'(

but given the budget, i'll go for r2. packaging always attracts me  ;)

i've already settled with the r3 giftset, so no matter how great the r1 or r2 giftsets will be, no more backing out (since cc has been charged already)  ;D

i think that one will depend on your post office  ;)  at $59 shipped, r1 is just the same price with r3 when we got it... runtime at 149mins, does this mean its also an extended version?

149 mins. is the running time of the theatrical version of the film. Amazon's listed running times aren't always accurate, but I am concerned that the cover art doesn't state "Extended Version" or "Director's Cut" anywhere, since they usually make a big deal of that.

never pa kasi ako nag order ng over 50 dollars, usually ginagawa ko 2 shippments to avoid customs tax.

Before, with my Makati office as my delivery address, all were being slapped by tax or custom duties as what they said. Now I'm already here in Ortigas Center and my previous orders, though still below $50, were all delivered without that dreaded tax.

We'll see on November. I'll post it here if I'll be charged for this particular order.

Fyi also, I usually order one title at a time since I'm carefully assessing my budget these days...
