50Hz AVR's like HK and Denon, any comments?
« on: Oct 26, 2006 at 11:17 PM »
Hi. i would like to know from the experts here if there is any problem in using equipment rated for 230v, 50Hz since the AC supply here in the Phils. is at 60Hz. Nung nandoon kasi ako sa Dubai and I was looking for a Receiver, a sales staff (pinoy din) told me that I cannot use it here coz its designed for 50Hz. Pagdating ko dito, I checked and the HK and the Denon AVRs that I saw are also 50Hz. Only the Yamaha and Onkyo were 60Hz. Even my NAD c542 is also 50Hz when I checked.  ???

Reymer,

I've been using a lot of gears from Hong Kong (50Hz) and brought it back to Philippines....and still functioning as of this posting flawlessly.... TV's, Amps, Mini Hifi's, even Microwaves Oven's, and a lot of electronic gadgets.....since I started working here....

No problem so far.....Heck even some of my colleagues in here shipped a Split Type Aircon, Hot & Cold capable Refrigerators, Power Tools, etc...and they said it is still working properly at this time...

Dont worry about that too much....You need to worry if the gears that you're going to bring back home is only 110V.......now you have to remind everybody in your household that it needs a power converter...... ;D

Hi,

Any gear with an induction motor may/can have rotation speed problems. I did noticed that 50Hz transformers plugged to 60Hz outlets run a bit warmer as opposed to running them in 50Hz.

Other than that, I think there shouldn't be anything to worry about.

Happy listening.

Hi,

Specially those with ac motors (ie, belt drive turntables) since these are frequency dependent. The receivers, I think, pwede since the power is converted to dc before it reaches the main circuits.

I've been using our Denon AVR from HK (50hz), Pioneer DVD player from HK(50Hz), Yamaha Subwoofer from HK (50Hz) since 1996-97 and still, its is functioning as of this time..... aside from JVC TV, Sony, and Toshiba TV's na as of this time eh still functioning flawlessly.......yun nga lang mukang luma na but it is one of its kind nung bago....around 2 yrs pa bago nagsulputan sa pinas yung mga ganong model...but ngayon muka na syang pre-historic....at di ako makabili ng bago dahil sayang naman at di pa sya nasisira.... ;D

lets just say na lang na ang lifespan nung Denon ay 20 yrs if using in a 50Hz condition and lets say na mabawasan ng 5 yrs if using it in a 60Hz condition......ABA!!! antagal ko pa pala mapapalitan nung Denon ko, 6+ yrs pa :o ::)  eh hindi pa nga DTS capable yun eh.....low tech pa......pati na rin yun PioneerDVD player....anlaki pa non.....di pa uso ang DTS nung mabili ko......

For me, regarding those AVR, Amp, CD player, DVD player, digital camera, video camera, TVs, walang problema yan...enjoy your gears....malamang eh obsolete na yung features nyan at gusto mo  nang palitan eh di pa masira-sira yan....hererherehrehrherer

get my drift?? ;D

That's OK, you can like or dislike anything you choose. That's the wonderful thing about the freedom
