That's a nice feature....but then again, I will need to upgrade my AV receiver to a one that can accept the bitstream & decode the HD lossless audios....hence have to spend more $$$...patay! :P

PlayStation 3 firmware 3.0 now available

Right on schedule, PlayStation 3 firmware 3.0 is now out and being fed directly into your console (should you opt to download it, at least), offering a number of changes to the user interface and Trophies section and animated themes with avatars. Be sure to come back and let us know what you think!

Update: We're running the update now and the changelog that shows up the PS3 has two new features we hadn't heard about: simultaneous audio output across connectors and control of video playback (slow motion, fast forward and rewind) using the right stick. Nice!

Is the PS3 Slim Better for watching Blu-ray discs?

In a recent hardware review, the folks over an Engadgetdid a great deal of studies on the PS3 Slim’s performance, and in most cases it out performed the older ‘fat’ PS3. For those buying PS3s primarily for Blu-ray though, there’s a bit of a conundrum.

Over a series of tests, the PS3 Slim outperformed the older model except for one: Blu-ray load speed. Starting a Blu-ray movie took an average of five seconds longer on the PS3 Slim than on the standard model. The difference was as low as two seconds for “Air Force One” and as high as ten seconds for “The Nightmare Before Christmas”.

Of course, the PS3 Slim does do one thing the standard model doesn’t that should make home theater enthusiasts think twice about it. Sony’s new system is able to bitstream lossless TrueHD and DTS-HD MA audio, making it the better choice for those with higher end audio requirements.

How do you connect it? What connections do you use? Do you connect it direct from PS3 > LCD (tru DVI-HDMI)? Or PS3 > desktop PC > LCD?

Try the advice from toyfanatic if it works.

The PS3 audio setting guide:
http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/audiooutput.html

There are various PS3 version so it's best to check your included manual. If you don't have the manual you can use the online manual. Just click the model version you own (user's guide-click here).
http://asia.playstation.com/hk/en/support/p/ps3-user-manual

Also try checking your LCD- audio setup.

I think you have to manually check only the 2-channels in audio format setting of your PS3 if you are using the HDMI as your audio cable. If not, the PS3 will automatically play the 5.1 channel audio and no sound will come out of your LCD. Also check if your LCD will allow audio passing through the HDMI cable. Warning: DVI connector is a video only plug, no audio signal will pass through it. DVI-HDMI cable will not output audio signals also.

Mga sirs maraming salamat sa inputs. Napagana ko na but the video is thru the HDMI-DVI and the audio is coming out from the RCA. I just bought a Y-connector with 2 female RCA and the other end is 3.5mm male plug then connected it to my LCD. Then adjust the settings sa PS3. Ayos may sounds na. Pwede pla yung 2 ang source coming from the PS3. Galing... ;D

Before you buy those cheap knock-off controllers from CDR-King... :P :P :P

Quote
PS3 firmware 3.0 locking out knock-off controllers?

Well, here's a bit of a curious situation. As Joystiq reports, it wasn't long after the PS3 firmware 3.0 went live that the first reports of problems started cropping up, with one particularly nagging issue being that some controllers (specifically the CECHZC2H Ceramic White DualShock3) seemed to be locked out of the console once the update was installed. After hashing it out a bit on the official PlayStation3 forum, however, users apparently determined that the controllers in question were in fact knock-offs and not official Sony product, which raises some different but just as interesting questions. Namely, is Sony locking the knock-offs out on purpose, or is firmware 3.0 just too much for them to handle? For its part, Sony doesn't seem to be saying anything on the matter just yet, but we'll keep you posted.

Thanks for the advise. Called a branch tonight, 17,000 na lang daw pero friday pa darating stock. I asked bakit malaki price difference sabi ng kausap ko nag-advise daw ng price off ang headoffice today lang. Check ko na lang daw on Thursday for the final price. Hintay na lang konti. Pa reserve na ko. Sayang 3 days weekend.
Maraming salamat ulit.

nope, asian bd's are region "a", same as u.s.a., uk is region "b".
