yeah, that too. No more line-of-sight. You can hide your PS3 behind the TV (not that you wanna do that) and still be able to control it.  ;D

thanks very much guys, ya im very happy with it..Ya got a remote, it really helps a lot. Paul, ya december will be a really good time to buy bec im sure there will be lots of price wars and im sure great Christmas deals..My crystal ball see 100 to 150 usd hddvd players with 8 to 10 free discs and blu-ray players hitting 299 to 399 with 8 free discs hehe, Dual formats players will be 500 or less by June 2008 hehe...Just my crystal ball....I really think this is realistic by next year..By the way I read somewhere samsung wont be coming out with a player that is 1.1 compliant till 2008. So are we sure players after oct 31 is 1.1 compliant?

chronic, what display are you using?

The ps3 downscales 1080p encoded games to 480p, blueray downscales to the TVs native resolution. Thats what I know, unless a fimware release has already solved it. I have firmware 1.9... hasnt happened to me yet.

Wow that sucks, since most games are already 1080p, why can't it downscale to 720p? But it can still play at 1080i right? I mean sayang kasi ninja gaiden is really amazing at 1080p plus the new MSG4 are coming in 1080p.

I've seen philips lcdtv that are 1080p capable, although this still has the 1366x768 native resolution, it would only upscale it through a processor chip right? Is this better than being downscaled to 480p? I'm thinking of getting another tv dedicated for my ps3 since i can't contend with the wifey in the bedroom when her tv shows are out. I think the philips is only 46t+++ cash.

tanong ko lang po.  Is it true na yung warranty ng PS3 dito sa atin only covers service warranty and not the parts?

thanks.

there is no official warranty here. As sony did not officially release the ps3 in the Philippines. So Sony stores here won't even touch your ps3

I'm thisclose to purchasing a PS3 for use almost exclusively as a Blu-ray player. Best price I've seen so far for the 60G version is Php 23,500 in the computer games shop inside Cardinal Audio, 3rd Floor V-Mall, Greenhills. It's the Asian version. Maybe someone can help me with a few questions?

1. Is that the best price around already? I've looked and that's about as good as I could find it. Can anyone suggest a shop with a cheaper price?

2. Is there a need for this remote:

Yes I think cardinal audio has one of the best prices. The thing is their warranty  I think is just for 7 days replacement warranty. I bought mine in EYO a couple of weeks ago for 26 thousand with one free game. There are 3 games to choose from, Harry potter (latest), transformers or ninja gaiden. Also their warranty is 3 month replacement, so its pretty good to me. I also have good experiences with EYO so far (knocking on wood), I also got the modified xbox 360 from them. So far everything is great. You will be really satisfied with the Ps3, I know asian version will play Region 3 dvds. However, I would not play dvds on it if you already have a great upscaler. I would preserve everything for bd playback or games. I prefer to save it from wear and tear by avoiding dvd playback. Also make sure it gets a lot of ventilation bec it gets pretty hot. I prefer placing them on those wide open glass racks..

Regarding the remote I would get one, I think its like 1250 in data blitz, I think its the cheapest compared to other places, but you can check around. You can use the gamepad as a remote but I would buy the  BD remote, it is great, easier to use.

If you want more info on the ps3 regarding prices elsewhere, hardware, software etc. You can check out PinoyPSX.com.

Yes it will, At first I was gonna buy mine in Hong Kong last month, but darn this thing is really heavy. I dont want to put it in luggage. And its too heavy for hand carry. So I decided to just buy it here.
The advantages of buying in hong kong to me are:
1. Price is 3780 hkd, around 22,680 pesos, but this price is already so close to the prices here. You have to buy games there. Grabe it is cheap. At least 1000 pesos or more the difference.
2. Buying in Sony hong kong gives you warranty from sony mismo in hong kong. This is a big advantage to me bec if something goes wrong you can just fly to hong kong for the warranty, which the fare you can get na below 200 usd (all in with taxes)  flying cebu pacific or sometimes PAL's promos. 2 hours away lang pa. An added plus.
3. Sony is offering the 5 free blu-ray movies. I think when you buy it in Sony hong kong, you can claim these 5 free blu-ray movies because you bought it from Sony mismo. This is what I think, but you have to confirm it, this might be a promo only in america. On another note this is great especially when you have somebody in america you can use as address for them to send the 5 discs. 100 dollars din yun 5 discs. Its faster to use USA address I think.

I bought mine here and did not bother sending the receipt and the code from the box to claim the 5 free disc bec I think retailers here are not included in this promo. If it is, can somebody let me know so I can get my 5 free discs. Thanks.

The 5 free BD movies promo is only for US and Canadian residents, for players bought in the US or Canada.

Thanks, I thought you can purchase from Sony center hong kong (since its launched there and sony mismo) and mail in the form in america for the movies hehe..
By the way for those who are interested in the Playstation 3, I read thru other forum that Data blitz is already offering the US version at 29 thousand. I have to reconfirm this but this is a big drop in pricing. I recall the price of the US version to be around 37 to 39 thou..

PS3 owners,

Would you guys know if PS3's are auto volt or not? I am using a US version 60GB.. And by any chance, can this system be handled by a Ablerex UPS 625VA/375W or I should stick to those AVR 1000+W? I am totally new to wattages/amperage etc..

Thanks

mga sirs,

observation ko lang po...
almost same na ung output ng HTPC ko (vga connection to Sony LCD TV  with Vivid Colors) vs PS3 (HDMI - custom color, warm2, full color space) using DVD...

Hmm.. Marami narin nagsabi actually, pero.... Hehe.. wala parin sakin yung urge to plugg it to a 220V.

Yikes idle @ 300W... I guess servo AVR it is.
