Hi guys . I just got my PS3 2 days ago and I connected it to a Benq 100. It's really amazing even only at 1080i. Pq is just great.

hello everyone. i'm also seriously interested in buying a PS3 for Bluray playback and some gaming.  I backread and found out the the 20GB version doesn't have a wifi capabiltiy. I would like to ask sana how much is the cheapeset model that has wifi capability? Hard disk space is not really an issue to me since i won't be uploading the unit with songs or what not since i have my Mac for that. Also, is the wifi capability really a necessity in a PS3? Is it only for online gaming? i'm not sure if i will try online gaming but will probably do so. Thank you guys. please advise, i'm planning to get one tomorrow.  ;D

the 20gb doesn't have wifi but it has an ethernet port for lan connection. the 60gb has both wired and wifi. mas stable pa wired kesa wireless especially if your router is in another room

we use destiny cable internet. the problem is that the cable only stretches out upto our Family Room. I'm going to use the PS3 in my room and i don't see it possible to hook up long cable to reach my room. I do however have a router connected to the destiny ethernet  and it's signal seems to be fast and stable. I am online almost all day via wifi using my Mac naman. The signal trips very rarely

planning to buy a ps3 to serve as both gaming and blu-ray player. apologies if someone asked this before and naduduling na ako sa haba ng thread. If I have an AVR with an HDMI input does the PS3 have 2 hdmi output to connect to the TV and AVR? I heard that to experience tru digital sound, the audio connection should be through hdmi. tama ba? Also does the PS3 have a coax output to connect directly to the AVR?

PS3 has only 1 HDMI out. You will have to connect your PS3 via HDMI cable to you AVR's HDMI input. Then your AVR's HDMI out via HDMI cable to your TV's HDMI input. That means you will need 2 HDMI cables.

Also, the AVR's HDMI should support audio processing to enjoy those lossless HD audio.

You can connect the PS3 thru component and composite cables using the correct video output cables for the PS3. It has also 1 optical out (toslink).

i think you can add a wifi adapter via the ethernet port of the 20gb ps3. search mo na lang sa ibang ps3 sites kung anong mga compatible devices. nung una kasi lumabas yung ps3 sabi ng mga taga states mas mura pa daw magupgrade(60GB HD, wifi adapter, card reader) ng 20GB version than to pay $100 more the 60GB version.

is it wise to buy a sony ps3 blu ray player than a regular blu ray player? can a ps3 upscale ordinary dvd discs? I was wondering if ps3 can upscale dvds? I have a XBOX HD DVD drive but wanting to buy a hd dvd player or a blu ray player. which one do you think is better?

may pros and cons ang ps3 vs. a standalone. i own a ps3 and a sony bdp-s300.

ps3 pros:
1. it can play bds, dvds, cds and sacds
2. it's an htpc. it can stream music and videos from your pc
3. it can decode dolbytruhd
4. fast loading times

cons:
1. no analog outs
2. reliability issues
3. blutooth remote can't be integrated into a universal remote

BDP-S300 pros:
1. IMO it has sharper PQ
2. analog outs

cons:
1. slightly slow loading times
2. does not currently support dolby truhd

since i don't have an HDMI receiver i prefer using the s300 for bd playback. i think the PQ is a bit sharper and i can listen to uncompressed PCM via the multichannel outputs. power on is pretty slow but loading time isn't bad.

I was planning to get a PS 3, but when I learned that it consume around 170 Kw/h. I changed my mind. Is the posted electrical consumption  accurate?

This is my first post.

I have recently bought an Asian PS3 60gb, mainly for playing BD movies and some HD MP4 movies. I already have a DVD upscaler. So I dont use the PS3 to upscale DVD. It saves the wear & tear on the PS3.  ;)

Do you know that you can play Apple HD trailers?
Its Simple, just download the Apple or Yahoo HD trailers, Export the file from MOV to MP4, OPTIONS Video = Passthrough, Audio = Passthrough.
Transfer the file to a Memory Card "VIDEO" folder. Thats it!

170 KiloWatts/h is way too much sir.

PS3 consumes 380 Watts of power ... a little lower than a desktop PC ... but twice that consumed by an XBOX360 and about 8 times that used by the PS2.

380w is the maximum...........

average for video games  185w

average for dvd movies 173w

average for HD movies  187w

here's the source of the power consumption test....

If you are from Manila, you can try any Datablitz branches here.  I think they are selling it for P31K

Asian PS3 now cost 22T to 23T compared to U.S. PS3 29T to 32T locally. Get a DVD Upscaler if you want to upscale R1 DVD.

Buying a U.S. PS3 can have benefits, if you buy in the U.S., They give free BD movies at $499.00. But the disadvantage is it 110V and heavy to carry it back to the Phils. (learn from experience bringing a U.S. PS3 for my Dad).

Even though it is written as 110v, the US PS3 is autovolt. My US PS3 is plugged in directly at 220v.
