the ps3 cannot read AVI files. Does any of u know how to convert avi files to other video formats readable by the ps3? What are the software or video convert downloadable thru the internet?

Since I'm running short on my PS3 hard drive (320GB) due to the large files inside (all vob files from HD DVD and Bluray Rips).. i've decided to give my mac mini a break from slumber. I converted it to an HTPC since may DVI to HDMI naman and a digital output (toslink). Now.. whether it's mkv or vob.. playable na sya thru quicktime with perian and VLC.

My only wish is to integrate VLC to front row, or front row to handle VOB files. Ayaw eh.. in the meantime.. all my existing vob files will have to be played by the PS3.

Back to the topic.. i'm resuming download of movies. Will update the list again by wednesday.

sir kobe how long does it take an avi file about 1gb to convert to ps3 readable files via software ps3 video9? bro kundi me nagkakamali nakaindicate d2 15hrs conversion time ganun b katagal? Pag mkv to vob conversion 700mb mkv files takes only 15 mins to convert to vob.

Guys, Buy yourself a TVIX 4100, 5100 or 6500. It can play HD MKV or HD Divx files. It has HDMI & SPDIF already. It can play 720p or 1080p. about 15T+ without harddisk.

you save money from less electricity & expensive DL DVD.

No need to convert. No need to burn to a Dual Layer DVD. Just download it to the internal harddisk. The harddisk is formatted as NTFS. So no 4gb file limitation.

Hi guys. I'm planning to buy a pre-owned ps3 (Japan) unit next week. I'll be using it mainly to watch movies. Based on most comments, excellent daw ang ps3 when you play bluray discs. Yun lang, my basic questions before going through with the purchase are:

1) How is the resolution when you use the ps3 to play dvd's (I use a Samsung 37R81 TV)?
2) Does it upscale dvd's to 720p/1080i (just like the Samsung HT-X30 htib)?
3) Does it give good audio output (when hooked up via HDMI to the TV then by analog cable to a sound system)?
4) Will the Japan ps3 play region 1 and region 3 dvd's? If not, is there an upgrade to make it dvd region-free?

Thanks for any advice.

The PS3 won't output 7.1 DTS HD-MA. The screen will indicate it does but the reciever only shows 5.1 :'( :'( :'(
So those with Hairspray, Shoot Em Up and Pan's Labyrinth BDs may or may not wait a little longer to enjoy the full potential of their disc.
