Although 2 channels lng ang input mu from the PS3, your Samsung HT will still render its output to 5.1 channel.
Great choice for deciding to get a PS3 coz its the best multi media machine available as of date at a very reasonable price.
Enjoy!

Thanks, ayan nalinawan na ako.  ;D That was what I was thinking nga.  :) PS3 talaga balak kong bilin to play blu-ray kasi as of now sobrang mahal pa rin ng stand-alone BD players, plus may games pa sa PS3, what more coud I ask for?  ;)

??? ??? ??? You won't get 5.1 channels from a stereo source. What you will get is enhanced surround sound from the Samsung HTIB. 5.1 are seperate distinct channels. Example: All you hear in the center channel/speaker is dialogue. The only way you get this is through the optical or HDMI output of the PS3.

Thanks, this is very informative. Ok na sakin yung enhanced surround sound lang as of now since itong Samsung HT-X20 lang ang receiver namin. :)

despite having both a DS controller and the regular six-axis, I prefer the latter because its lightweight  ;)

I also prefer the Sixaxis over the DS3.

One more thing, is the PS3 capable of displaying subtitles ba for video files? For example, meron akong mkv 720p video pero korean ang language, meron however na external subs na english (srt file). In order for me to play the file sa PS3 I would have to use mkv2vob to convert the video right? So after maging vob na yung file, ilalagay ko lang yung vob and srt file sa PS3 then pwede na niya ma-load pareho? Or meron na bang subtitle support yung mkv2vob? (sorry di ko pa kasi na-dl yung program) Thanks!

Wala yata support yung converter i tried it before but after converting mkv 2 vob, no subtitles displayed when i play via PS3.

Only 60 and 80gb PS3s have built-in memory card slots plus 4 usb ports while 40gb PS3s have only 2 usb ports and doesnt have a built-in memory card slot but you can still use an external memory card reader by plugging to its usb port.

price of PS3 here is still at P18K +/- (for the 40gb model) ... depending on the shop where you intend to get it.
For the US version, it's region-locked for DVD R1, Region A for BD. Good luck.

You can check out this link for Region coding of BDs ....

Kanina nasa V-Mall ako, meron akong nakitang package na 24,500, Asian 40Gb, with 1 free game and 2 controllers na (dual shock 3 yung free). Bibili na sana ako kaso sabi sakin hindi daw advisable na mag play ng blu-ray movies kasi madali daw masisira yung PS3. Eh ang plano ko sana for my PS3 is 80% movie player, and 20% games lang as of now. Ayun, dahil sa sinabi nung nasa store di na muna ko bumili...

Well the choice is yours. I think majority of our fellow members here are using their PS3s as a bluray player for playing games and watching bluray movies. i think if you'll be using the PS3 exclusively for playing bluray movies and not as a Dvd player, then i assume there wont be any problems although it really depends on your usage.

if you can wait. bili ka nalang mga around december, because by sept this year, only the 80 gb will be available for sale at 399$ so presyong 40gb pero yung 80gb model na, so in short parang price cut narin. so kung sept ma-implement yan, around december siguro natin ma-feel yan dito sa pinas or baka november. that will be a good buy.  ;D

nope, hddvd was a competing format which has stop production of its players. all movie studios has also stop support for the format that was introduced by toshiba. samsung, lg and toshiba produces the hddvd players. you can of course still find some players out there, new old stock or pre-owned. and as you can see in the pdvd market place and amazon, prices of hddvd are falling compared to bluray.

so if you are not picky, you can easily jump into the hd bandwagon by going hddvd first, cheap player, cheap disk (although the lastest ones that you can buy are i am legend, beowulf and atonement, newer movies they don't release anymore). then pag talagang wala ka ng makitang magandang film. buy bluray. hehehe by that time mura na sya.  ;D ;D ;D

hahaha yeah, exactly what i was thinking. san ba kayo usually bumibili ng BDs? sa amazon mura around $20 lang (900Php) pero syempre may shipping fee pa yun. dito sa pinas nagtanong ako sa infomax 1700 pinaka-mababa. of course i can always opt to buy mint condition BDs din dito sa pinoydvd hehehe
