thx sir.

PS3 Asian now on 2.42 FW pero ayaw pa rin magplay ng .avi files e. i do however try to play them on the USB Flash drive. di ba pde direct play on flash drive? do i really need to copy it over to play .avi files?

PS3 Asian users,
can you guys play .avi files?

thanks!

from your flash drive, try creating a "VIDEO" folder and place your avis there...

i encountered the same prob before and this worked

hope this helps  :)

I just download 2.42 firmware. No choice, you can't access PSN without the new firmware. I dont like updating new firmware. You never know what bugs on the new firmwares.

Hope you can help enlighten me:

How will you know if the BD disk will have black bars in the upper & lower portions when viewed?

our lcd /plasma tvs have 16:9 aspect ratio consider as widescreen, but the aspect ratio of movie theaters are 2.35:1 anamorphic (hope i am right on this), that's why film transfers to discs whether its the old dvd, the new bluray or the dead hddvd, even if shown in our new tvs, it still exhibits black bars on top and bottom of screens. so if it says anamorphic, that's black bars for us.

some people just use the tv's zoom function to fill the whole screen, of course by doing that its either you get a distorted image or correct image but part of the original scene has been chopped off the screen.

hmmm you can't disable the black bars, its either watch it in the original aspect ratio or you have to use the TV's zoom function to fill the screen just as iiinaslao said

Criterion Collection uses PS3 as reference Blu-ray player

"Yeah, you read that correctly -- the obsessive audiophiles / videophiles at the Criterion Collection use Sony's PlayStation 3 as its reference Blu-ray player. In all honesty, we can't say we're too surprised. Time and again, Sony's latest console has been rated very highly as a dedicated BD deck, and the plentiful firmware updates ensure that it's always at the forefront of whatever interactive functionality is next. This snippet of factual goodness was extracted from a recent writeup that took an in-depth look at how the CC would be revamping its home theater, and even famed calibration guru Joe Kane gave his approval at using the console for playing back Blu-ray Discs. The real kicker? They also settled upon a DVIGear HDMI cable over one of those obscenely overpriced Ogre cables -- and that was after running clean out of coat hangers."

I guess it also shows that reference grade HDMI cables are really just a myth performance-wise. Really, I don't see how cables will affect PQ and SQ when the signal is digital.

that is because there are cheap cables that are good enough, but some are really bad .. cables from cheap dvds in quiapo are actually good enough ..  :)

The effect of low-grade vs high-grade occurs when they reach pass a certain length. You know it low grade when you see green rain all over the picture, usually due to poor shielding. But otherwise 3m and below, quality is no big deal.

That's what the experts here in PDVD have been saying. Short HDMIs (3M below) regardless of the brand will definitely do the job (I remember a very technical explanation of this). For longer lengths of an HDMI they are saying it'll have a difference.

I already experienced this feature way before installing the newest firmware. The only bluray movie that does start where it was left off was Pirates of the Caribbean 1 while others bluray movies start where it was left off.

Guys, noob question lang regarding the ps3...

In the audio options, what's the difference between Linear PCM and bitstream?

From what I understand, with linear PCM, the ps3 is the one decoding the audio right? And with bitstream, the ps3 only passes the undecoded audio to the receiver and the receiver will be the one to decode the audio?

concern ko kasi yung DTS-MA coz d kaya decode ng ps3 yun now dba? if i change it to bitstream and let my rcvr (onkyo-606) decode it, kaya na ba malabas yung DTS-MA?

don't know kung natanong na to hehe thanks!
