I know someone using Dynaudio Countour 5.4 speakers purely for karaoke. Though he has a Focal Electra HT, and a Dynaudio Confidence HT.

I've also seen an older B&W 802 hooked-up for karaoke use.

for those pipol (upper class) who can be able to use them for that kind of set up, why not, but for us (lower class)  who value those kind of gears, i don't think so... it so happens to be that person who i am talking to doesn't know anything about the gears he has (he was the one who sold me also the 15's dahil hindi daw nya gusto ung tunog and hindi daw match sa onkyo 806 niya  :) )

for speaker budget around 20-30k lang siguro.  but my plan is to have front and center muna then every other payday or pag  nakaluwag unti unti bili ng surround and then SW so medyo pwede ako mag stretch ng budget kung paunti unti ang bili.

thanks.

Best speakers within your budget would be B&W series 6, 685 or 686 but you'll need to stretch a bit for a center. I started with B&Ws, 601 and then 685, very versatile for both ht and music. Plus the wow factor.

Polk Audio RTi A3 fronts + Polk Audio RTi A4 or A6 center

A3+A6 will be slightly above your budget but the A3+A4 will be within.

+1
If you can make the stretch to A6 Center, it will really be worth it in the long run.

Can anyone recommend me a good speaker/sub set for movies/gaming? Budget P20k max.

I also live in a condo so I'm not really aiming for anything fantastic (that would also be expensive). Entry-level would be more than suitable, I think.

Oh, wow. Thanks for bringing this to my attention! Just contacted the seller.

I have another question. The receiver I'm planning to get is 7.1, if/when I decide to add those two extras, what kind of speakers should I get? Should the brand be the same as the rest?

as much as possible it should be the same...not just for sound coherence but also aesthetics. but judging on how these speakers were marketed, it'll be hard to find couple of spare for surround duties. 7.1 is necessary for long rooms. but for most ht setups, 5.1 is more than enough. great to see you decided on the energies. i'm not related to the seller of the energies para clear lang.

Hmm, I guess I can hold off on that seeing as I won't be moving anytime soon. I've only had HTIBs (and not really the good ones at that) so this is my first time to dive into a full set-up. So I take it if I manage to get the speaker set and get a receiver that does DolbyHD/DTS-HD, I'd notice a huge improvement?

mashalata ko ang HD audio sa concerts. pero sa movies, IMHO, di masyadong noticeable. or probably my HT gears are not that revealing enough.  ;)

sounds like you know what you want. hd audio? huge improvement? mukhang isa kayo sa mga mabibiktima ng pdvd sa oplan zero contentment.  :P i only suggested the energy takes kase kala ko maliit lang pwesto niyo. and you want to setup and forget. hehe. i personally would want bigger drivers for ht.

in hobbies that involve spending, it is usually the hunt that's more enjoyable than the acquisition. kaya take your time, leon. btw i also can't hear the difference between hd audio and standard.

Way I figure it, might as well future-proof my setup as much as I can. I don't plan to upgrade every few years but I do want a lot of bang for my buck - even if it's not particularly high at the moment.

Hopefully I can set something up for the holidays. Lots of downtime and lots of time to enjoy my potential future setup.

I totally agree with you.  :D Bigger drivers for all the speakers that are capable of reproducing at least 50hz for the lows.

It's also the story behind the hunt that makes the acquired gear very special.  ;D

Different speakers have different sonic characteristics. Best if you could audition them sa ating mga suking stores here at PDvd. They're more than willing to show to you.

IMHO, i don't mind kung bookshelf or floorstander. Generally, there is no such thing as a speaker that's good for movies and music. They are all and the same. It would strongly depend on your preference and budget. For music or HT duties, i personally would prefer speakers that could go low with a very smooth frequency response as much as possible.

Im eyeing polk rti a3 speakers kac for 80% movie and 20% music.. And I'm torn between bookshelves and floorstanders.. I've read somewhere here in pdvd that bookshelves is good for movies than floorstanders. Do you think both bshelves and fstandes would generate an outstanding performance level in terms of SQ?

I wouldn't mind bookshelves or floorstanders as long as they can generate some good low frequencies. That's my personal preference based on my experience. You can't go wrong with any of the polk audio products as long as gusto mo yun sound ng polk. Ako, i fell in love with the LSiMs but couldn't afford it.  ;)
