Price fixing of LCD TV's
« on: Dec 16, 2006 at 09:26 AM »
Just read this article and this is even worse in the Philippines. A 50 inch generic Plasma is just 1499 US dollars while branded plasmas like Philips,Sony and Panasonic are still in the range of 5000 to 7000 US dollars. With the internet, we can compare prices of the same product practically all over the world and still we become suckers by buying these overpriced TV's

nice thread.

i have always wondered why local retailers would give us all these "freebies" worth up to 50k, when they could just as well sell the LCD's without the "freebies" for 50k less.

Bundling is one of several marketing strategies.  They bundle to help them make a single sale for multiple items in a package.  It then appears as if the others are free, but actually, the costs for the 'free' items are already embedded into the package's selling price.    >:(

actually they bundle the stuff that they can't sell anymore... they need to dispose it so they can order the new stuff from the offices abroad... they can't do that if the total inventory (in value terms) remains high; so they need to dispose faster than the other brands so they can get new models in... fortunately for the philippines, electronic items have a slower churn... so nagsasabay sabay lahat ng mga freebies... was
supposed to handle philips consumer electronics marketing last year when they offered me the job... did otherwise..

sometimes they dont make any money na talaga with all the freebies... thats why we bring down the prices slower here than the other countries... cuz the next years forecasts say the same thing... more expensive stuff being produced in the other countries that we cant buy until the prices go down... its a vicious cycle...  :(
