I think there is indeed a $25 charge for an e-book reader. I guess it falls under the category of Ipads which also gets a $25 charge. I just based it on the email I got from Trixie.
Here's the email I got from JAC regarding their rates and procedures:

- $ (USD) 6.50 / lb ELECTRONIC, Auto parts, taxable items
Plus : Handling Fee : $ 2.50 shipment (pick-up) / $ 10.00 (for delivery)
Plus : $ 50.00/unit (additional clearing cost for a laptop & two way radio) / $ 25.00 - Mobile Phones & Ipads
Plus : Inland freight (if any)
Plus : 12% Vat (Philippine Peso)

last week Analyn from NY branch said they'll be charging a $25 surcharge for an ebook reader and it will be $7/lb. They couldn't even explain to me the logic/reason behind the surcharge for an ebook reader when all the other electronic items (i.e., game consoles, GPS receivers, digicams, videocams, cellphones, etc.) I had them ship for me before weren't charged anything else on top of the $5.50/lb.
What type of items did you have shipped if I may ask?
